☀️ All in all, it was a never to be forgotten summer — one of those summers which come seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going — one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends and delightful doing, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world ☀️

Toby Green & Thomas Fazi / The Covid Consensus: The Global Assault on Democracy and the Poor - A Critique from the Left (2024)
🇳🇬 Nigerian Edition 🇳🇬

'The most comprehensive critique yet of the devastating 'War on Covid,' showing how to ensure it never happens again.'

📰 Reviews
'Restrictions have disproportionately affected the young and poor. [This] unique take explores how these groups...are likely to experience staggering inequalities for years to come.' - NEW STATESMAN, 'THE BEST BOOKS ABOUT THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC'

'A meticulously referenced, shocking catalogue...a depressing tale of hubris, mindless groupthink and cynical power grabs.' - THE AUSTRALIAN

'An essential book to understand what lockdowns really mean for the poor worldwide.' - JAY BHATTACHARYA, PROFESSOR OF HEALTH POLICY, STANFORD UNIVERSITY

'An excellent book at a critical time. Pandemics breed hysteria, to which the only cure is reason. This book is a masterly dose of reason, challenging, questioning and sceptical in the best sense of the word.' - SIMON JENKINS, AUTHOR AND COLUMNIST

'As this book [shows], the strategy judged to be the best for dealing with Covid-19 in the rest of the world is badly adapted and in fact counter-productive on the African continent.' - LE MONDE

'Brave, measured, essential.' - EL PAÍS

'A bracing anti-lockdown polemic.' - LONDON REVIEW OF BOOKS

It would have been impossible for me to have told anyone what I derived from these novels, for it was nothing less than than a sense of life itself.

All my life had shaped me for the realism, the naturalism of the modern novel, and I could not read enough of them.

📚 The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, also known as the Library of Alexandria, is a major library and cultural centre on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria, Egypt.

It is a commemoration of the Library of Alexandria, once one of the largest libraries worldwide, which was lost in antiquity.

The complex was officially inaugurated in 2002. At the time of its construction, the reading room was the largest in the world.

The library offers shelf space for 8 million books, containing books in the Egyptian, classical Arabic, English and French languages.

The complex also houses a conference centre, several specialised libraries, multiple museums and art galleries, a planetarium and a manuscript restoration laboratory.
