We often say these words all the time. But what exactly are windows, Mac, Linux, etc?
Join me as we break these terminologies into their simplest forms.
Before we talk about windows or Mac or Linux, let's talk about Operating systems (OS for short).
(1). What is an operating system?
Simply put, an operating system is a software that controls other softwares in your computer system.
Whenever you hear someone says "I want to format my PC" or "I want to reload my OS", it simply means the person wants to remove the existing operating system and install a new one.
(2). What happens if a system does not have an operating system?
Imagine you live in an apartment without the following: a door, a chair, a bed, a kitchen, rest room, not even electricity!! That is how useless your PC can be without an operating system.
Without an operating system your hardware components would be rendered almost useless because the operating system controls both the hardware and software components of your PC.
(3). So what do people mean when they say "windows 7, windows 8, windows 10, windows 11, Mac OS, Linux" etc?
These are just some of the various types of Operating systems!
