The Light That Wouldn’t Go Out💡

Tolu never imagined hostel life would be this overwhelming. She had once dreamt of the excitement, the freedom, the late-night gists. But no one told her about the constant noise—the kind that wasn’t just loud but corrupting. Conversations filled with reckless stories, laughter laced with immorality, and a casualness toward sin that made her spirit uneasy.

At first, she thought she could ignore it. “I’ll just mind my business,” she told herself. But darkness isn’t passive; it presses in when light isn’t shining. Soon, the words she once found offensive became normal background noise. And worse, some of those thoughts started lingering in her mind.

One night, as she lay awake, Tolu felt the weight of her struggle. "God, why do I feel so weak? Why do these thoughts keep coming?" she whispered into the dark. And then, as if an answer had been waiting, a verse surfaced in her mind:

"And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." (John 1:5)

She sat up. She was light. She wasn’t meant to blend in with the darkness—she was meant to shine! The problem wasn’t just the environment; it was that she had let her light dim.

From that moment, she made a decision.
She would guard her heart. She would fill her mind with the Word. And she would not let the darkness define her.
Days passed, and while the conversations in the hostel didn’t change, Tolu did. She found peace in her Bible, strength in prayer, and a new kind of boldness. She no longer felt helpless—she was a light that wouldn’t go out.

And something amazing happened.
One night, a roommate approached her and asked, "Tolu, why are you so different? I want what you have."

That’s when she smiled.
Because she was meant to be a light✨🔥
A shining light that represents God and can never be hidden.

My father is a seasoned farmer from Ilaje, Ondo state. He has spent his entire life cultivating the land.He plants a variety of crops, from green and coco to yam, cassava, and rice 🍚. His farm is a marvel, with imports and exports flowing in and out, and a team of dedicated farmhands working tirelessly fir the production of the very best.

One day, my father decided to plant a new batch of seeds 🌼. As he scattered them across the land, some fell along the winding path. Birds swooped down, devouring them in an instant 🐦! Others fell among thorns , struggling to grow amidst the choking weeds 🌱. Some seeds fell on rocky ground 🌎, where they lay barren and still 💔. But a select few fell on fertile soil 🌿, where they germinated and grew, eventually producing a bountiful harvest 🎉!

As I watched my father tend to his crops, I realized that this everyday scene held a profound spiritual truth. The seeds that fell along the path represent those who, as soon as they hear the Word of God, have it snatched away by Satan 😈. The seeds that fell on rocky ground symbolize those who receive the Word with joy but lack a strong foundation . When problems arise, they flee, unable to withstand the challenges 🏃‍♂️.

The seeds that fell among thorns represent those who, though they receive the Word gladly, are choked by the allure of worldly riches and desires 💸👑. These distractions hinder their spiritual growth, making it difficult for them to bear fruit .

But the seeds that fell on fertile soil represent those who not only receive the Word with joy but also cultivate a strong foundation 🌱. They live for God, doing things according to His will, and produce a bountiful harvest of fruit !

This parable reminds us that our spiritual journey is not just about receiving the Word, but also about cultivating a strong foundation, resisting worldly distractions, and living a life that bears fruit for God's kingdom 🌟.
May God help us all

I have always prided myself on being a great cook. Not just any kind of cook the type that could make angels abandon their heavenly banquet just to have a taste of my delicacies. My egusi soup, in particular, was legendary. People whispered about it in secret meetings, elders nodded in respect when my name was mentioned, and neighbors pretended to visit just to “say hi” whenever they perceived its irresistible aroma floating through my window.

But on this fateful day, my egusi soup would make history for an entirely different reason.

It was a Saturday evening. The kind of evening where hunger grips your stomach so tightly you start remembering every bad decision you’ve ever made including why you didn’t buy that extra loaf of bread yesterday. I had just finished pounding yam, my pot of egusi soup was bubbling beautifully on the fire, and the aroma was so rich that even my ancestors must have been salivating in the spirit world.

I was in the kitchen, humming a song, feeling like a Masterchef contestant. I had added stockfish, goat meat, pomo, and even a touch of periwinkle because why not? If I was going to eat, I was going to eat like royalty.

As I stirred the soup, I smiled to myself. “Ah, this soup go sweet die.”

What I did not know was that an uninvited guest was about to make a grand entrance.

Somewhere above me, hidden in the dark corners of my kitchen ceiling, a cockroach a bold, fearless, destiny-altering cockroach was watching me. Perhaps it was hungry. Perhaps it was jealous of my culinary skills. Or maybe it was just tired of its miserable existence and decided to experience greatness before meeting its end.

Whatever the case, this cockroach made a decision that would change my life forever.

Without warning, without shame, without any consideration for my hard work, it dived yes, DOVE straight into my steaming pot of egusi soup like an Olympic swimmer aiming for a gold medal.

PLUK!!!

A suspicious splash echoed in the kitchen.

I paused. My cooking spoon froze mid-air.

“What was that?” I muttered.

I looked around. Nothing seemed out of place. The soup was still bubbling, the aroma still rich, my hunger still very much alive.

“Maybe na my imagination.” I shrugged and continued stirring.

Minutes later, my soup was done. I dished a large portion onto my plate, the yellow egusi glistening with red palm oil, chunks of goat meat peeking through the thick broth, the scent so divine I could almost hear a choir singing in the background.

I sat down, grabbed a large ball of pounded yam, and dived in.

Heaven.

The taste was beyond perfection. It was as if the soup had received an anointing. The sweetness, the umami, the depth of flavor it was on another level entirely!

I took another bite.

And another.

I was chewing, humming, smiling until my teeth hit something that was definitely not goat meat.

It had a crunch.

I paused.

Chewed again.

Another crunch.

My brain quickly did the calculations. Goat meat does not crunch like that. Pomo is soft. Stockfish is tough, but not this kind of crunchy.

I picked up the mysterious object with my fingers, squinting at it under the dim light.

Then I saw it.

The cockroach leg.

HAAAAAAAHHHH!!!

The speed at which I spat out everything in my mouth could have broken Olympic records. The way I jumped from my chair, screaming, shaking my head, and beating my chest like a possessed man, you would think I had just swallowed a live scorpion.

“JEEEEESUSSSSS!!!”

I ran to the sink, turned on the tap, and began gargling water like my life depended on it. The cockroach leg was still on my tongue, mocking me. I scrubbed my tongue so hard I almost peeled it off. I wanted to vomit, but my body refused.

I looked at my plate of food. The same food I had just been enjoying minutes ago. The same food that had tasted so good I almost cried tears of joy.

Now, all I saw was cockroach broth. Insect-infused egusi. Roach delicacy.

I cried.

For the rest of the night, I couldn’t think straight. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw a cockroach laughing at me, shaking its head in pity. I felt like I could still taste it, like the essence of the cockroach had become a part of my soul.

To make matters worse, my stomach started rumbling. Was it just in my head? Or was the cockroach fighting back from the grave? I didn’t know.

One thing was certain my relationship with egusi soup would never be the same again.

And as for that cockroach? It may have died, but it won. It made me realize that sometimes, ignorance truly is bliss. Because before I knew the truth, that was the best egusi soup I had ever tasted.

The best.

And the worst.

May we never unknowingly eat what we cannot stomach. Amen.
Una good afternoon oo

03/01/2025

I was talking with a brother after the crossover service yesterday and he told me how God has been faithful to him. He said he was happy to be amongst those who saw the new year.

"My brother there was no tension. I had no fear at all. I came to church and I worshipped God. I didn't even know it was new year until they announced it in church. This is the first time I am feeling so relieved and I know it is the hand of God."

I asked him if he had been scared the previous years.

He shouted.

"Yes, o. Yes. An evil woman cursed me early this year. She said I was going to d!ee before the year ends in 2024."

I exclaimed.

"Why? Just like that? What kind of prayer is that?"

"My brother, because I didn't give her money to buy drugs when she asked me. This was a random stranger that just approached me on the road and asked for help. I said I don't have. The next word that came out of her mouth was you will d!ee before the end of the year since you want me to die of my sickness. Instantly, my head became heavy. It was like I was carrying a load. I froze at that spot for close to 20 minutes looking at her. I was speaking in tongues."

He told me he knew at that point that this was no human but a devil that had come with evil words in the form of an old woman to shorten his life.

"Praises, the moment I got home, I took off my clothes, laid on the floor, and battled it in prayers. I knew I had to change the curse or her words would alter my destiny. I fasted and prayed. Cried to God. It was three days back, while praying I felt the weight on my head lifted and the fear in my heart disappeared. At that point, I knew I was free from her evil curse. See me now I have entered 2025." He finally smiled.

I joined him to praise God.

I told him if care was not taken, she would be the one who wouldn't be alive now because her words would return to her.

Sometimes the devil uses people to throw words and curses at you because he knows how powerful the tongue is. If you overlook those sensitive words, it will chase you until it achieves its purpose. Do not overlook certain evil words in 2025. Fight it in prayers. Revers it. And send it back.

Be spiritual this new year.

Hold God close.
