BENDISMEA RENAMED TO BITDA AFTER LEGISLATIVE APPROVAL
..Hon. Adagba Praises Decision

The Benue Digital Infrastructure Services Management Enforcement Agency (BENDISMEA) has been renamed Benue Information Technology Development Agency (BITDA) to align with the national agency, NITDA.

The milestone followed deliberations by the Benue State House of Assembly. The process was initiated by the agency’s Director General, Hon. C-itp Solomon Terkimbi Adagba, MNCS, MCPN, to ensure alignment with federal standards.

After rigorous legislative deliberation marked by teamwork and transparency, lawmakers passed the bill. The Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga MNIQS, RQS pronounced BITDA as the legitimate name of the state ICT agency at plenary, bringing BENDISMEA to an end.

Reacting, pioneer DG C-itp Adagba described the development as pivotal to Benue’s digital growth. He applauded the 10th Assembly for effective representation and urged members to sustain the enactment of laws that advance the state’s progress.

Hon. Adagba called on members of the public to familiarise themselves with the change. He assured them that under his leadership, BITDA will deliver on its mandate.

He added that the law establishing BITDA has also been passed, a development he described as a turning point for effective operations.

While appreciating His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for establishing BITDA and finding him worthy to serve, the BITDA boss said the agency remains committed to building a sustainable tech ecosystem to empower citizens through innovation and good governance.

“We are glad about the success we recorded with the support of the 10th Assembly. We are investing in digital infrastructure and human capital to ensure every citizen has a place in the global digital economy,” he stated.

Honoured to have shared my thoughts yesterday at the SpringCore Africa-Tech-Soar Conference 2026, as a guest speaker on a subject close to my heart: Harnessing the Digital Economy for Youth Empowerment in North-Central Nigeria. We are moving beyond the narrative of just 'fertile lands.' Our youth from Ilorin to Jos, Makurdi to Minna are the architects of Nigeria's digital revolution. The North-Central isn't just a 'bridge'—we are a tech frontier. My challenge to the North-Central Youth: Do not wait for a perfect environment. Build from where you are. Your smartphone is your storefront. My take away: "Digital skills are the new currency of empowerment."
