Episode 6: Meeting Mama

The following Sunday, Ifeoma smiled as she stood outside Jona's gate, smoothing the beautiful Ankara dress she had carefully chosen.

"Are you ready?" Jona asked, offering his hand.

She nodded.

"As long as you're beside me."

A few minutes later, they arrived at Jona's family home.

His mother welcomed Ifeoma with a warm embrace.

"So you're the young woman who has been putting this permanent smile on my son's face," she said with a laugh.

Ifeoma blushed.

"Good afternoon, Mama."

During lunch, laughter filled the house as they shared stories and teased Jona about how quiet he had become since meeting Ifeoma.

As they prepared to leave, Mama gently held Ifeoma's hands.

"My daughter, thank you for bringing joy back into my son's life. You will always be welcome here."

Ifeoma's eyes glistened with happiness.

On their way home, she slipped her arm through Jona's.

"Meeting your family wasn't as scary as I imagined," she whispered.

Jona smiled.

"That's because you already belong with us."

Ifeoma rested her head lightly on his shoulder as they continued walking together, their hearts growing closer with every step.

Episode 5: A Promise Under the Stars

That evening, Jona invited Ifeoma to the rooftop of his family house, where the cool breeze made the night feel peaceful.

They sat side by side, sharing roasted groundnuts and talking about the future.

"Do you know what I like most about you?" Jona asked.

Ifeoma smiled. "Tell me."

"You make every ordinary day feel like a special memory."

She looked at him, her eyes shining with happiness.

"And you make me feel safe," she replied softly.

Jona gently reached for her hand, rubbing the back of it with his thumb as their fingers intertwined.

"I don't know where this journey will take us," he said, "but I promise to be honest with you, to respect you, and to choose you every single day."

A happy tear slipped down Ifeoma's cheek.

She smiled and leaned her head gently against his shoulder.

"That's the most beautiful promise anyone has ever made to me."

Above them, the stars sparkled quietly as they sat together, saying nothing more.

Sometimes, love didn't need many words.

It only needed two hearts beating as one.

Episode 4: The Evening Walk

As the sun began to set, Jona knocked gently on Ifeoma's gate.

She stepped outside wearing a soft smile that instantly brightened his evening.

"Let's take a walk," Jona said.

Side by side, they strolled through the quiet streets, chatting about their dreams and laughing over childhood memories.

At a small fruit stand, Jona bought two ripe mangoes.

"For the sweetest lady I know," he said, handing one to her.

Ifeoma laughed. "You're trying to make me blush again."

As they continued walking, she gently slipped her hand into his.

Jona looked at her, surprised.

"Is this okay?" she asked softly.

He smiled warmly and intertwined his fingers with hers.

"It's more than okay."

They walked on hand in hand, smiling without saying another word.

For both of them, love was no longer just a feeling—it was becoming a beautiful journey they were ready to take together.

Episode 3: An Unexpected Visit

Two days passed without Jona seeing Ifeoma.

He found himself looking toward her street each evening, hoping for a glimpse of her smile.

Then, one Saturday afternoon, there was a gentle knock on his door.

Opening it, he froze.

It was Ifeoma.

She held a small food flask in one hand and smiled shyly.

"My mum made jollof rice and fried chicken. She said I should share some with our kind neighbor."

Jona chuckled.

"Then tell your mum she has excellent taste... because she raised an amazing daughter."

Ifeoma lowered her eyes, trying to hide the smile spreading across her face.

As she handed him the flask, their fingers brushed gently again. Neither of them pulled away immediately.

For a few quiet seconds, they simply looked into each other's eyes, smiling without a single word.

It was becoming impossible to pretend they were just neighbors.

Episode 2: A Cup of Zobo

The next afternoon, Jona passed by the same neighborhood store, secretly hoping to see Ifeoma again.

As if fate had heard him, she was there, smiling.

"So, Mr. Rescuer," she teased, "are you following me?"

Jona laughed. "Maybe... or maybe this street just likes bringing us together."

She giggled and pointed to a nearby roadside spot.

"Come, let's drink zobo. My treat."

They sat on a wooden bench, talking about family, childhood dreams, and their favorite Nigerian meals. Every laugh came naturally, and every glance lingered a little longer.

As Ifeoma brushed a strand of hair away from her face, Jona couldn't help smiling.

"You know," he said softly, "your smile makes an ordinary day feel special."

A gentle blush spread across her cheeks.

Before they parted, Ifeoma lightly squeezed his hand.

"I'm glad I met you, Jona."

He watched her walk away with a heart that was already beginning to choose her.

JONA
Episode 1: The First Touch

The evening breeze carried the aroma of roasted corn as people returned home after a long day. Jona adjusted the strap of his bag and greeted the elderly women sitting outside.
"Good evening, Mama."
"Jona, God bless you, my son," they replied with warm smiles.
Just then, a soft voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Please... excuse me."
He turned and saw a beautiful young woman trying to reach a box on the top shelf of a small neighborhood store. She stretched on her toes but couldn't reach it.
Without saying a word, Jona stepped closer. His broad shoulders almost brushed hers as he gently took the box down and placed it in her hands.
"Thank you," she said, smiling shyly.
"I'm Jona."
"I'm Ifeoma."
For a brief moment, neither of them looked away. It felt as though the noisy street had suddenly become silent.
As she turned to leave, the edge of her wrapper caught on a nail by the doorway.
"Ah!" she gasped.
Jona quickly bent down, carefully freeing the fabric before it tore. Their fingers met for a heartbeat as she collected her wrapper.
A warm blush spread across her face.
"You're always rescuing me, and we just met," she teased.
Jona laughed softly.
"Maybe it's because I don't want anything that belongs to you getting hurt."
Ifeoma smiled, lowering her eyes.
As she walked away, Jona found himself watching until she disappeared around the corner, unaware that the gentle stranger had already occupied a place in his heart.
