Police arrest woman for stabbing husband to death in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a woman, Mrs Sara Innocent, for allegedly stabbing her husband, identified as Innocent Nwaọjị, to death during a domestic dispute in the Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on Saturday night at Umuokereke Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said the command received a report of the incident at the Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters.

Chinaka said, “We received a report at the Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters on 09/08/2026 that, on 08/08/2026, Mrs Sara Innocent of Ohuru Isimiri Village allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest with a kitchen knife during a misunderstanding.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“The scene of the crime has been visited, the co**se deposited at the morgue for autopsy, and the suspect is currently in police custody.

“Discreet investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).”

It was gathered that the couple got married in December 2025 and had been married for barely eight months before the incident.

The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has condemned the reported assault of a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts, following an allegation of attempted sexual misconduct involving a female student of the university.

The university made its position known in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by its Director, Information and Public Relations, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, mnipr, following the emergence of videos of the incident on social media.

The video, which went viral on Saturday, shows the lecturer dressed in an academic gown as he was stripped half naked during an encounter with students shortly after he ran out of his office alongside a female student who was shouting and calling for help while holding the lecturer's clothes.
