Good day everyone

My DSA Learning Journey - Building Real Solutions

It's been an incredible journey learning with DSA! The curriculum is packed with comprehensive content covering the entire software development lifecycle - from frontend and backend development to DevOps and testing.

There's so much valuable knowledge to absorb.

I've decided to take a hands-on approach: for every new concept I learn, I'll immediately apply it to a real-world project - a Church Management Software system.

My plan is to start by gradually building the backend APIs, then move on to developing the frontend interface.

This practical approach helps me solidify my understanding while creating something meaningful for my community.

Following up from day 5 (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ucSp8qoD387JCAGn/) assignment which was to design a part of the page as seen in the photo 1 an assignment given to me by my tutor Aminigbo Paul

Here is my design photo 2

Day 3 of Web Frontend Training: CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)

Day Two: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/KNddZo1QArQTmsCa/

Tutor: Aminigbo Paul

Today’s session was packed with new learnings! Here's a summary:

1. Types of CSS:

Inline Styling: This is written directly inside an HTML element using the style attribute. The advantage is that it's easy to apply directly to elements and is often used for testing or overriding styles. The disadvantage is that it can't be reused and is not suitable for larger projects.

Internal Styling: Written within tags inside the section of the HTML document. It is used to style a single webpage. The advantage is that it allows you to style an entire webpage without using external files. The downside is that it can't be reused across multiple pages.

External Styling: Written in a separate CSS file and linked to the HTML document using the tag. The advantage is that it can be reused across multiple pages. However, it can't be used to style individual elements without some extra effort.

2. CSS Selectors: We explored different CSS selectors used to style HTML elements:

Type Selector: Targets all instances of a given HTML element (e.g., p, div, span, h1).

Class Selector: Targets elements based on their class attributes, allowing multiple elements to share the same style (.className).

ID Selector: Targets a single element by its unique ID attribute ( ).

Universal Selector: Targets all elements on a page (*). It has higher precedence than external styles but lower than inline styles.

Attribute Selector: Targets elements based on the presence or value of an attribute (element[attribute] or element[attribute=value]).

Descendant Selector: Targets elements that are nested within other elements.

Child Selector: Selects only direct children of a given parent element (>).

Adjacent Sibling Selector: Selects an element that immediately follows another element (+).

General Sibling Selector: Selects all elements that are siblings of a specific element (~).

Pseudo-class Selector: Targets elements based on their state or position (e.g., :hover, :focus).

3. CSS Properties: We went through various CSS properties:
color
font-family
font-size
line-height
display
text-decoration

4. Display Values: We also discussed different values for the display property:

Block: Starts on a new line and takes up the full width of the parent container (e.g., div, p, h1).

Inline: Only takes up the width of the content, not the full width of the parent (e.g., span, input).

Inline-block: Wraps when the container space is occupied but doesn't behave like a typical inline element.

5. Justify Content: We learned about values for justify-content:

Space-around: Spreads the items with space around each.

Space-between: Spreads the items evenly across the parent container.

Space-evenly: Ensures equal spacing between the items.

6. Practical Session: We concluded the class with a practical exercise where we used all these concepts to design a portion of a webpage. (You can see my result in the attached photo).

Challenges Overcome:
I learned that it's best practice to include internal styles inside the element rather than outside of it, even though both methods may work.

I now fully understand Universal, Attribute, and Child Selectors, and how they function.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

I am excited to for this next phase of my life, saying "yes" to do forever with the one I call my own on 5th September, was everything bliss 😍
Let the congratulations start coming in 🥰
Most times, that's the only motivation majority of us have to show up online
We only appear on people's feed when we have
🎉An engagement ring to celebrate,
🎉A new laptop or apartment
🎉An employment letter
Talk about the, "I Am Happy To Announce" campaign everywhere...
"Oh, queen, always a kill joy, shouldn't we celebrate our wins again?"
Oh pardon and forgive me, celebrating wins is not the concept of why I am writing this post, so please walk with me with an open mind
When our Hallmark for showing up online is vested in how much we are winning in life, it can either Mar or Make us.
Just like how we advice people to not build their audience online through giveaways and all, the same way it is a ticking b°mb when you create an audience who are used to seeing the "all that glitters" narrative of you
So you think the only time to post on social media is when you have gotten a new role and then when paraventure you get laid off or stop working, we don't get to see any 2cent from you about how great it is to be a working class somebody
The only time we get to see you again is when you have another good news to share
Now if you say sharing your wins ain't bad, do you also stop to check the motive behind why you do that only?
To tell people you always got your life figured out?
To create an impression you got it all rosey?
Or because that's the only thing that makes you feel worthy(sounds like a low self esteem problem to me)?
Why am I saying this?
I have seen young talents struggle daily with the "create an impression of perfectionism" mindset and how badly it is currently affecting growth
Young people no longer want to be authentic and share those genuine details about their growth and process
It is always one pressure of painting an image of a personality they are not, to another
❓Who says documenting a journey where you started learning a tech skill is bad?
❓Who said talking about how it was just yesterday you got started in tech is reducing your steeze?
❓Why do you have to lie that you are now a "Senior or Junior senior expert", what's the adrenaline rush?
You can still command influence and fame (if that's what you want) through authenticity...
Want to know how bad it is to create a personal of an all time WINNER?
📌People will always find it hard to believe you will ever need help
📌You create an army of people who are entitled
📌Your raise a colony of eye-service people whose only motive will be to extort from you but never to refill
📌You create an illusion of having people when in reality check, you are all alone
The list is endless...
They say cut your coat according to your size, but permit me to say, CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO YOUR MATERIAL 🙌🙌
