Our co-founder, Chris Dale, spoke this week at the SANS Institute Pen Test Hackfest Europe Summit & Training 2024 in Amsterdam.

🔎 As a member of the summit advisory board, Chris delivered an insightful session on "Web Application Pentesting - Practical Methodology for Finding Bugs and Vulnerabilities." After the major IT collapse on Friday, July 19, our own Chris Dale was interviewed by TV 2 Nyheter, second largest news channel in Norway, to share his immediate thoughts.

Despite the fact that this event was directly linked to a critical mistake in a software update by the provider (this time it was Crowdstrike), the same outcome and worse could occur through successful cyber attacks. It's a paradox that this patch, in software meant to protect us from cyber attacks, was the origin of the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) causing havoc across the globe.

As this update was highly critical, it is concerning that the supplier likely ran this update without significant quality control and deployed it without sufficient testing in advance. With this said, we must all prepare our Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and ensure we can "survive" both when unintended mistakes like these happen and in the event that actual cyber crime is the root cause.

🚨 Global Outage Alert: CrowdStrike Impacted by Security Update 🚨

A recent security update has caused CrowdStrike to trigger the dreaded Blue Screen of Death, leading to a massive global outage and affecting thousands of organizations.

While high deployment ratios of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions like CrowdStrike are essential for robust security, they can also become a single point of failure, as seen in this incident.
