SO interesting what ChatGPT came up with when I asked it to illustrate a caricature of me in my job… apparently a lot of strategy and a lot of notes. 🤣 One thing I know for sure is my brain does tick that way. 2016 was my last year living in Melbourne. I left for a 6 week trip to Thailand and Bali where I fell in love with Pad Thai, Mango Sticky rice and the quirky village of Pai. Also all of Bali of course, so much so that when I flew back to Auckland I booked another trip back in a months time where I went solo, sipped coffee and went walking with my DSLR taking photos and interviewing people for a wellness magazine concept Wahine that I had conjured up with my friend Julz. I ended up extending Bali for another month so was there 2 months in total and did a little fly over to Kuala Lumpur with a friend to extend my visa. I also got wayyyyyyy too confident on a scooter over in Lombok 🫣

I painted earlier in the year on Hosier Lane an existing painting which I called ‘Chemical Age’ about the popping pill culture - legal or not. Then in Thailand and Bali I had the privilege of painting murals at hostels; one in Chiang Mai and one in Canggu.

Leaving Melbourne was extremely hard for me and has had a pivotal shape on my life - my mum was going through cancer at the time. Seeing these photos and looking at all I did in just one year has been pretty special and wild. Painting 3 times on walls in a year - this is my inspiration to do so again 🌈 We are the creators.

It’s been a time of change. A beautiful time. One project I’ve been working on is coming to fruition and another one based on connection with a fellow kindred spirit!

Learning along the way has been beautiful for me, letting go of ego, perfectionism while still looking at attention to detail. I’ve been working with some really great humans lately and I appreciate you all, so a shout out to those of you, you know who you are 💛🤍

Feeling a little bit stuck with your own canva designs? Design tip #4 from me incoming 🌻🥨:

Left-aligned text is the easiest to read online and in print because it follows the natural flow of our eyes. Big paragraphs of centered text are hard to scan and can look clumsy.

Save centered text for short headlines or quotes where you want impact. For body copy, stick to left alignment for clarity and professionalism.

Design Snacks #3 incoming on this spring day in school holidays 🌸Your fonts shouldn’t fight for attention - Use one or two fonts max.

Too many fonts instantly make a design look messy. Stick to one for headlines and one for body copy, and if you want variety, use different weights or styles of the same family (bold, italic, etc.). This keeps things cohesive while still allowing contrast.

Your fonts should complement each other, not compete.

Try this on your next post and notice how much more polished it feels: your audience can focus on your message, not the chaos. 💛 for it’s all the small little changes that make a difference!

For those creating their own designs in canva, the solopreneurs This is probably the biggest thing I notice… not enough space especially around logos. Don’t be scared of space, let your designs breathe 😮‍💨 the space draws your eyes in.
