Unlike other online remittance options, wise allows you to also have your own Wise bank card so even if you travel abroad, you can use the it as your international bank card and no need to open a bank account in the country you are in.

Banks sting you with hidden charges when you send or spend money internationally. But that’s yesterday’s problem. Say hello to Wise – the clever new way to move your money.

Wrong that 10 year old girl living in Nelson told to leave because of special education needs. No way for Immigration NZ to treat children and I am determined to get decision reversed. I have gone public after Minister has not heeded my plea for intervention with deadline tomorrow.

Background is family came to NZ from Phillipines over two years ago - Dad works for specialist aviation company, Mum as an aged carer. They have valid work permits for another 2 years. Child is well settled and school totally supportive of family and child.

Immigration refused to renew the student visa early this year after the girl was diagnosed with special needs requiring additional support at school. The family said they were quite happy funding this cost of about $120 per week. The family sought reconsideration of the case but this was rejected on 1st September with Immigration saying the child must leave NZ by 25th September. Unreal giving a child 3 weeks to leave in current international situ, threatening deportation if she does not go and stating no further application will be considered.

I wrote to the Immigration Minister as soon as case came to my attention seeking urgent intervention mid month but just got a standard reply yesterday acknowledging my letter. The parents are fearful of her being illegally in NZ as of tomorrow. That is why I have gone public with case, but am not naming child, school or family.

This is not the first case I have had of Immigration NZ treating children awfully. This visa should be issued urgently, there should be an apology to the family and the policy needs to be reviewed.

Some good news from NZ Police and additional reminders on how to avoid your mailbox being raided by thieves. :)

Waitemata Police have been investigating a spate of mail thefts across Rodney over the last couple of weeks.

This morning we received a 111 call with a report of a male stealing from letterboxes in Orewa. Police quickly attended and arrested a 38-year-old man.

He will appear in the North Shore District Court this morning on multiple theft charges.

Through this arrest Police have recovered around 100 stolen letters and a smaller number of courier packages.

After the arrest, we then carried out a search warrant at an address in Albany and recovered further stolen mail and courier packages.

A 49-year-old woman was arrested at the Albany address and will appear in the North Shore District Court next week on theft charges.

Our investigation is ongoing and we can’t rule out the possibility of further charges.

Police are in the process of working through the stolen items and will be looking to return these to their rightful owners in the near future.

As part of our enquiries we have noticed a trend of offenders targeting credit cards being delivered from banks. Our advice would be, if possible, to pick up the credit card from the bank branch. We also recommend that people clear their letter boxes each night. If you are going away then please ask a neighbour or family member to assist.

We just want to take this opportunity to thank our community for reporting this suspicious behaviour and calling 111. Your information has led to this arrest and has prevented further offending
