Adrian uses Herd-i BCS and lameness scoring system, and has found one of the biggest benefits is the ability to clearly see what is happening across the herd, rather than relying solely on shed observations or assumptions.

“I don’t have to second-guess it or decide which cows come first,” he says. “If they’re flagged by Herd-i, they’re flagged.”

That relief comes from having objective data to support what is often a subjective judgment made in a busy farming environment. Whether it’s body condition or lameness, Herd-i provides another layer of visibility that reduces uncertainty and supports better performance.

“At the end of the day, you just want to know you’re doing right by them.”

A great few days at the Fonterra Organics Conference. A big thank you to the organisers for bringing the industry together and creating space for valuable conversations.

There was a genuine sense of optimism throughout the conference, with strong confidence in the future of the organic sector and clear opportunities for farmers looking to be part of it.

Prevention, of course, was also a major theme, with many discussions centred around the role it plays in building successful and profitable organic farming businesses.

For us, it was another reminder of the value of giving farmers the information they need to make decisions earlier.

Herd-I’s CEO Liz joined Jamie Mackay on The Country yesterday to talk about Herd-i, AI and what daily herd monitoring can add on farm.

The conversation covered lameness detection, body condition scoring and how camera vision can pick up subtle changes earlier than the human eye can often see.

That is where Herd-i fits in.

Farmers already know their cows. Herd-i adds another layer of consistent, objective data every time a cow moves through the shed, helping support earlier decisions around cow health, body condition and wellbeing.

A great chat about practical technology, New Zealand dairy farming and where herd monitoring is heading.

Listen here -

The chief executive of Herd-i explains why the AI dairy-cow herd-monitoring business does a much better job than the human eye at body condition scoring and lameness detection. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
