Just over a year ago, a freak frost heavily impacted kiwifruit orchards throughout the North Island, one of several weather events contributing to significantly lower fruit volumes this season. At Pinpoint, this meant introducing fruitlet counts into our Regional Monitoring programme to help growers capture how impacted flowers reacted to the frost. Flower counts are looking much more positive this year, so here’s to a better season to come!

The warming weather means winter bud counts are nearly over, and flower counts are just around the corner! Pinpoint collects this data from orchards throughout the North Island to help growers estimate crop numbers and create yearly regional benchmarks. This information will be particularly useful this year, after the unusual and challenging 2023 season🥝

This week we celebrated Laboratory Expert Sapeta Aeroman, who received a CEO Recognition Award for her vital contribution to Pinpoint!
Sapeta has worked at EastPack’s Lab and Pinpoint for 9 years, during which time she has trained hundreds of Lab Technicians. When presenting the award, EastPack CEO Hamish Simson highlighted Sapeta’s prioritisation of accuracy, excellent depth of knowledge and her great sense of humour. Congratulations, Sapeta!🥝

As we said goodbye to the kiwifruit maturity season, we said hello to avocados! Our lab team has spent the last few months conducting avocado monitor tests, helping growers to assess the maturity of their fruit in the lead up to harvest 🥑

The Lab's hype person has moved on to new things! After four years at Pinpoint, Laboratory Floor Manager Geraldine Fish has finished her last season with us. She is an expert in her field who has been an awesome, energetic team leader. We wish Geraldine all the best for her overseas travels!

Today we bid farewell to Pinpoint HR Assistant, Agnithia Fairburn! Agnithia was integral to finding and hiring the awesome seasonal team who have worked at Pinpoint this year. We wish Agnithia all the best as she takes her excellent people skills to Eastpack, where she will work as a Lead Trainer across three sites!🥝
