WHEN GIVING UP IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO
Letting go of something you have been pursuing can feel like failure. But sometimes, it's wisdom and courage to do so. Life is full of crossroads, and not every path we choose will lead to fulfillment or success. Sometimes, perseverance is celebrated as the ultimate virtue, yet blind persistence in the wrong direction can waste time, energy, and opportunities. Recognizing when to stop is not weakness—it is discernment.
There are moments when continuing a pursuit only drains resources and prevents real growth, although wrong directions can also show "good" but deceiving results that look like "growth" to other people. By choosing to give up, we create space for new and better opportunities to emerge. This act of surrender is not about quitting life’s challenges but redirecting effort toward something more aligned with our values, goals, and potential.
A thing done for God may look laudable to most church people but may actually be in direct opposition to God's will. It may be perpetrated for decades or centuries, becoming a widely accepted vital church tradition but odious to God, nonetheless. Unless you stop and redirect, you're headed for destruction for lack of revelation.
Giving up at the right time also teaches humility. It acknowledges that our initial plan may have been flawed or that circumstances have changed. Turning away from the wrong path allows us to learn, recalibrate, and move forward with greater clarity. In fact, many successful people attribute their achievements not only to perseverance but also to their ability to pivot when necessary.
Ultimately, wisdom lies in balance: knowing when to endure hardships for a worthy goal, and when to release what no longer serves us. Stubbornly pursuing the wrong direction can lead to regret, while courageously letting go can open doors to growth, renewal, and unexpected blessings. Sometimes, the bravest step is not pressing on, but turning around to embrace a better way.
