In the Spectrum Auction for Next Generation Mobile Services AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan, Jazz and Zong are competing for 10 MHz in the 1800 MHz band, and the third round is now underway. PTML (Ufone), Telenor, and CMPAK (Zong) have each submitted a demand for 1.2 MHz in the 1800 MHz band, which is not part of the Electronic Auction.

For 10 MHz, bidding began in rounds, and Jazz and Zong are in the running for the spectrum. The Spectrum Auction for 1800 MHz was set for September 28, 2021. After receiving the Policy Directive from the government, PTA issued an Information Memorandum (IM) on August 17, 2021.

On September 22, PTA received sealed bids for AJ&K and GB including demand of Operators, namely CMPAK (Zong), PMCL (Jazz), PTML (Ufone), and Telenor Pakistan for Spectrum in both the offered bands, in accordance with the dates indicated in the Information Memorandum.

The Spectrum auction process is overseen by the Auction Advisory Committee, which is chaired by the finance minister and includes representation from all stakeholders, including the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, as well as the Secretary for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan.

PTML (Ufone), Telenor, and CMPAK (Zong) have each submitted a demand for 1.2 MHz in the 1800 MHz band, which is not part of the Electronic Auction. Telenor Pakistan has made a claim for 15 MHz of spectrum in the 2100 MHz band that is not included in the Electronic Auction. After the auction, the total revenue produced and the final auction results will be announced in both bands.

For a fair and transparent spectrum auction process, an Auction Committee with representatives from both PTA and FAB is overseeing the entire process internally.

The Federal Directorate of Education has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tech Valley, a Google for Education country partner, to digitalize all government schools in Islamabad, according to officials. The initiative is in line with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a “Digital Pakistan.”

The effort is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s “Digital Pakistan” agenda, which intends to reshape the country through digital means. In the initial phase of this effort, Tech Valley will install Google Work Space based on Cloud-Based Infrastructure in 200 male and female schools across the Islamabad Capital Territory.

In the first phase, Tech Valley will install cloud-based Google Workspace in 200 schools in Islamabad, including both boys and girls, and Google will supply schools with distant learning tools and Chromebooks.

All teachers will receive virtual training on how to utilize and employ these technologies in the project’s second phase. The project, according to the ministry, is intended to ensure teacher and student professional development.

According to Education Secretary Farah Hamid, the project aims to improve instructors’ and students’ skills and talents to meet modern demands. She stated that after the pilot project in the federal capital was completed successfully, the project’s scope would be expanded to include the provinces.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom wants to put out 5G in 2023, as the telecom industry’s market size has increased to $16.9 billion after garnering $1.2 billion in foreign direct investments in the last three years.

The ministry highlighted in a recent presentation on the sector’s performance to Prime Minister Imran Khan that projects have been launched for “deep fabrication” by the Universal Service Fund (USF) to expand telecom services and internet even in remote and backward areas in order to meet future digitization requirements across the country and the launch of future technological needs such as 5G.

Over 10,000 kilometers of optical fiber cable will be constructed across the country between 2018 and 22 to provide high-speed internet to 1,175 municipalities and union councils. According to the ministry, USF projects have covered nearly 1,800 kilometers of unimproved road network in Baluchistan, including highways and motorways.

Minister for IT and Telecom Syed Amin ul Haq said the government was betting heavily on boosting IT service exports to $5 billion by the end of 2022-23, while remarking on the project’s importance.

“We will provide affordable and high-speed internet to people in tiny villages, and I am confident that even girls from KP and GB would succeed as freelancers while working from home,” the minister stated.

The government has revealed that it has built energy-saving equipment to help bring relief to the masses, which can lead to a 60% decrease in electricity charges.

She added the government has produced cost-effective electric fans, water engines and other technologies in the media. Science and Technology Minister, Shibli Faras, told the press

“The use of electric fans and other gadgets produced with the newest technology would cut the consumption of electricity by 40 percent to 60 percent,” added Faraz.

The minister stated that formerly, electricity was squandered but now water motors manufactured with the new technology will function better, as well as require less electricity. As a result, the electricity expenses will be significantly reduced, he claimed.

He added that energy- efficient appliances were made on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He emphasized that the people should profit from technology. He said that conserved electricity will be used in industry and in other industries.
