Journey of the Web Developer EP.07 | $120 → $48?! Did I Undercharge? 😮

Last year I charged my client $120+ for setting up their event ticket system. This year, the same client came back with another event, but most of the system was already built. So how much should I charge for the update?

In Journey of the Web Developer EP.07, I had to decide whether $120+ was still reasonable or whether I should charge much less for updating the existing WooCommerce ticketing system.

The client needed $15 event tickets sold through the website, with WooCommerce checkout, customer details and PayPal payment. After thinking about the amount of work involved, I decided to quote $48.

The client simply replied, “COOL.”

I then updated the homepage, created a new event ticket image, extracted the event information from the client’s flyer, updated the website and tested the complete WooCommerce and PayPal purchase flow.

After everything was tested, I sent the client the final update.

She replied, “Good.”

I thought the project was finished… until her next message revealed that she had another upcoming event.

Was $48 the right price for this job, or did I undercharge?

Journey of the Web Developer EP.06 | I Built a Website Before Getting Paid 🫣

A stranger found my portfolio through GitHub and reached out with a potential long-term web development partnership.

The opportunity sounded great, but there was one problem: I had no idea if the client was genuine. They wanted me to create a homepage first so they could see my development and design skills before moving forward with the full project.

So I had a decision to make. Should I spend hours building the homepage without knowing whether the client would actually respond, or ignore the opportunity?

I decided to take the risk.

In Journey of the Web Developer EP.06, I set up a fresh WordPress website, configured the database, installed Astra and Elementor, and started turning a simple wireframe into a professional homepage.

The wireframe was quite simple, but there were multiple pages and potentially more projects behind it. So I knew the homepage had to make a strong first impression.

After building the structure, I worked on the visuals, images, typography, spacing, colors and subtle animations to turn the basic wireframe into a polished website.

Finally, I prepared the quotation, timeline and preview URL and sent everything to the client.

Now comes the real question:

Will the client actually respond, approve the work and move forward with the project, or did I just waste hours on a stranger?

Journey of the Web Developer EP.05 | My Client Got Angry After I Bought His Hosting 😡

The client said, “Revert everything!” and I had already spent my own money on his hosting.

In Journey of the Web Developer EP.05, I continue the story from Episode 4, where my client’s website went down because the hosting had expired. I contacted Namecheap support, recovered the website database and files, and then had to figure out the best way to get the website back online.

I offered the client a new yearly hosting and email plan, purchased the hosting, uploaded the complete website backup to the new server, connected the domain, and started moving everything over.

But then things went wrong.

The website started showing a security warning, the client’s email also went down, and the client became frustrated and asked me to revert everything. I had already paid for the hosting and email service, so this became a serious problem for me.

After investigating, I discovered that Namecheap was experiencing a wider server issue that was affecting DNS and email connections. I explained everything to the client, recovered the emails and contacts, and eventually got the website and email system working again.

And then something completely unexpected happened.

The client accepted the project quotation I had sent earlier, paid the advance milestone, and also purchased the hosting plan.

After all that drama, I finally started the actual project: building the partnership and donation form with Gravity Forms, conditional logic and PayPal integration.

Journey of the Web Developer EP.04 | Client Said YES… But Website Was Down 😭

After waiting for days, my client finally accepted the proposal! I was honestly so happy that I immediately started working on the project. But when I opened the client’s website to start the work, something completely unexpected happened… the website was down.

In Journey of the Web Developer EP.04, I share the real behind-the-scenes of working with a freelance client. The project included creating a donation form and partnership form using Gravity Forms with conditional logic. The client had already provided the content and images, so everything seemed ready to go.

Then I discovered that the client’s hosting had expired. Since the client is not very quick with replies, I had to wait for the hosting renewal while trying to make progress on other parts of the project. During the wait, I finalized my new brand logo, updated it on my website, pushed the changes to GitHub, and made everything live.

This is the real journey of a web developer and freelancer: client wins, unexpected problems, waiting for replies, website issues, WordPress development, branding, and getting projects live.

Journey of the Web Developer EP.02 | Solving a Client Problem with Automation 🥲

A simple client request turned into one of the most interesting problems I’ve solved as a web developer.

In Episode 2 of my Journey of the Web Developer series, I planned to update my portfolio, but an old client reached out with a new project. The client needed a partnership form, a dynamic leaderboard page, and weekly updates for an upcoming event.

Instead of updating the leaderboard manually every weekend, I came up with a better idea. I researched how to automate the process using a Google Sheet so the client could simply enter data, and the website would automatically calculate and display the latest leaderboard.

🚨 Breaking News: Major Hack Hits WazirX 🚨

Yesterday, WazirX, one of India's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, suffered a significant security breach, resulting in the theft of over $230 million in digital assets. The hack targeted one of WazirX's multi-signature wallets.

| Stolen Assets Include:

5.43 trillion SHIB ($102 million)
15,298 ETH ($52.5 million)
20.5 million MATIC ($11.24 million)
Plus other cryptocurrencies like PEPE, GALA, and USDT.

In response, WazirX has temporarily suspended both fiat and crypto withdrawals to protect user assets. The exchange's team is actively investigating the incident and working on resolving the issue.
