Association of Computer Machinery has many chapters all over the world in different university. ACM GIK Institute Chapter is the society which handles the domain of computer machinery in GIKI. ACM GIKI is one of the oldest societies of GIK Institute which promotes computer through seminars, events, competitions and exhibitions. Pakistan events by ACM-GIKI Chapter. A brief description of our modules is given below:
Speed Programming:
Testing the knowledge of programming to limits, Softcom has a module speed programming that requires a team of 2 at max. It takes place in highly equipped Multimedia Lab of Computer Science faculty. The lab is adorned with latest computers and other hardware utilities. Certain program pseudo code statements are provided to the teams and first one to write a successfully running program is the winner. Timings are perfectly synchronized through the official ACM International software for Speed Programming Competition, PC^2. The judging is fully automated and thus removes any possibility of error caused by human interaction. The participants are supposed to finish their question in the allotted 4 hours duration. Social Media App Development:
Walnut Media brings you a chance to develop and present your Social App,that you believe has the potential for our top brands to use! The teams must register their app in Softcom earlier and develop it before the event.Teams will only be presenting the app during the event. This is the time to make a smart and striking app so register now in this module where you can win a prize money and international recognition! Web Development Competition:
In this module participant’s creativity and developing skills will be put to the ultimate test. At the start of the event they will be given a task that they will have to accomplish by developing a web based application. Participants will be free to choose any development environment or tool, but correct and sensible selection of the technologies will definitely award some bonus points. The application will be judged in three different criteria’s: Backend Development (server side scripting), Front-end Design (website design, layout and client side scripting) and a final interview to judge overall understanding of the application and technologies used. Participants will be provided with basic tools for the design and development but are requested to bring their own in USBs or compact disks. Quiz Competition:
Quizzes have always been a major source of analyzing ones talent in one’s profession, thus making an inclusion of a mega quiz, a vital part of annual tradition of ACM. Maximum number of members in a quiz team can be 4. The quiz competition takes place at the glamorous Agha Hassan Abedi Auditorium. Lightened and witty ways of asking educational MCQs make it easier and enjoyable for the teams to participate. The final of the Quiz Competition is held in the honorable presence of Chief Guest. Multimedia Competition:
The multimedia competition comprises of websites and graphical animations. The occurrence of competition in exhibition form provides the contestants a platform to put their efforts on show. Projects ranging from gaming and face recognition programs to cartoon animation softwares have all been a part of the preceding Softcoms. Judges of elegant educational backgrounds are called upon to arbitrate the competition. Software Competition:
Ever made software that will change the way we live? ACM hosts Software competition that exhibit software’s or projects made as Final Year Project, or simply for fun. Smart phone applications have also become quite common in this competition. The judging is done by professionals from the industry with high educational backgrounds and proficient experience. Poster Design Competition:
This exciting challenge will attract creative minds from all over the country and enable them to impress the audience with their aesthetical talent. It is a 3 hour competition held in the Multimedia Lab of Computer Science faculty. Maximum number of members can be 3 on each team. Participants will be provided with a library of stock images, etc. Start-up Competition:
Everyone always has these ridiculous ideas which they think would do great if implemented. However, there is a fine line between genius and eccentricity, and no one ever said eccentricity does not lead to genius. So here is your chance! Participants will be presenting their business ideas relating to technology and otherwise to those who have done it ‘big time’. Not only will they be learning whether their idea is good enough to catch the eye of the industry’s ‘Greats’. They will also get expert advice on how to further improve their ideas. All the practical advice on how to actually ‘start-up’ your own business might worth millions in a longer run if you play your cards right.
