Different Types of Atomic Species ⚛️
1️⃣ Atoms
An atom is the smallest unit of an element that retains the chemical properties of that element.
Example: One atom of oxygen (O) or hydrogen (H).
2️⃣ Molecules
A molecule is formed when two or more atoms combine chemically.
Examples:
Oxygen molecule (O₂)
Water molecule (H₂O)
3️⃣ Ions
Ions are charged atomic species formed when atoms lose or gain electrons. ⚡
Cations (+): Positively charged ions formed by loss of electrons.
Example: Na⁺, Ca²⁺
Anions (−): Negatively charged ions formed by gain of electrons.
Example: Cl⁻, O²⁻
4️⃣ Radicals (Free Radicals)
Radicals are atoms or molecules with an unpaired electron, making them highly reactive. 🔬
Example: OH• (hydroxyl radical)
Understanding atomic species helps us know how matter forms compounds and reactions occur in chemistry. From atoms to ions, every particle plays a crucial role in building the universe. ⚛️✨
