The million-dollar app that exists to say
A new messaging app has just one message -- "Yo" -- but its potential reaches far beyond that one simple word.
It's not quite Navi, but the purpose of a new app is similar. Like the name, Yo, suggests, it has one simple function: sending a single message. Yo.
No, the idea isn't to be as annoying as Link's fairy friend, but rather to draw your attention.
"People think it's just an app that says 'Yo'. But it's really not," Or Arbel, who created then coded the app in just eight hours, told the New York Times. "We like to call it context-based messaging. You understand by the context what is being said."
How it works is simplicity itself. You have a list of contacts. You tap one of those contacts, and they receive a notification saying simply, "Yo", along with an audio alert of the word being spoken. According to the app's description, it can mean pretty much whatever the sender wants it to mean, depending on context:
Wanna say "good morning"? just Yo.
Wanna say "Baby I'm thinking about you"? -- Yo.
"I've finished my meeting, come by my office" -- Yo.
"Are you up?" -- Yo.
The app has received $1 million in angel funding from a group of investors led by Moshe Hogeg, CEO of image-sharing app Mobli, who inadvertently commissioned the app: he asked Arbel to design a single-button app that he could use to call his assistant without having to pick up the phone. According to the Financial Times, Arbel didn't have time at that point -- but recalled it a day later after having simplified conversations with friends on WhatsApp.
At first glance, it may seem pretty silly, but the app's use during the FIFA World Cup highlights its potential: users can send a single "yo" to the username "worldcup" to receive a yo in return anytime a team scores a goal. At the moment, this involves a human watching the game and manually sending the alerts, but that won't always be the case.
Arbel's ideas, according to the newly launched API, for where the app could go next include a button for bloggers to send followers a yo whenever they post an update. Or perhaps a favourite online retailer could send out a round of yos whenever they launch new stock.
Even in its current form, the app is collecting significant attention, both positive and negative, with over 50,000 downloads and more than 4 million yos sent.

Finaly now supports GIFs
GIFs have finally come to Twitter. On Twitter's website as well as its iOS and Android apps, you'll be able to watch a GIF in your timeline by clicking a play button that shows up over top of them. GIFs won't animate automatically, likely to prevent you from downloading large files that you don't need. Opening up a tweet on its own will, however, immediately begin playing the .

Support for GIFs has been a highly requested feature, and adding it in makes reading through a Twitter feed much simpler, as you won't have to open up a new window every time you want to view one. Notably, Facebook has adamantly refused to add support for GIFs, seemingly over concerns of how it would make its News Feed look. They may not all be beautiful, but Twitter seems to get that they're all fun.

A new wants to do for the phone app what WhatsApp did for messaging, or what Mailbox did for email. In short, wants to be your new phone.
combines contacts, dialing and voicemail into one app, and uses contextual information to predict who your most important contacts are, and who you are most likely to want to connect with at any given time.

Ankur Jain, founder and CEO of Humin, believes the way most smartphone users approach their contacts list is fundamentally broken. He likens it to the state of online search engines in the mid- .
It's almost identical to the problem the Internet faced in the '90s," Jain told Mashable. "People forget, but you used to browse the web by alphabetical categories. Eventually, companies like Google realized you should be able to just search information the way you think about it so you can find what's relevant. We can not only predict who you want to connect with, but you can also search for people the way you think."

Humin contextualizes the relationships you have with your contacts by displaying personal details about each individual, and organizing contacts based on their relationship to you, instead of alphabetically. For example, when viewing a contact, you'll see a menu of friends you both have in common.

Upon launching Humin, the first contacts the app surfaces are those who live nearby, and those who with whom you have connected recently or frequently — in other words, people you're most likely to want to talk to in that moment.

And the app changes with you. Go to a new town, and the first contacts you see will be friends in your new location. Humin takes this a step further when you add a new contact from within the app: It allows you to record personal details such as phone number and email, as well as contextual information such as where and how you met.
The more you use the app, the more it learns from you, and the better its predictions will become.

Humin has been in development for more than a year and a half, and has been in private beta for the past few months. Earlier this month, Humin launched its early-access program, which enabled employees at some Fortune 100 companies to use it. The app will make its debut in the App Store in a few weeks.

Although Humin is initially launching on iOS, Jain said the company plans to take the app to Android, and can even see it potentially coming to other platforms such as Google Glass.

The World's Building Kingdom Soon in Saudi Arabia
Big things are coming to Saudi Arabia.

The Middle Eastern country is set to begin visible construction next week on what is expected to be the world's tallest building at 3,280 feet, according to Construction Weekly.
Tower will be 568 feet taller than Khalifa Tower, the current Guinness World Record holder in neighboring Dubai, once it is completed. The tower is the first phase of Jeddah Economic Company's approximately $20 billion, 17 million-square-foot Kingdom City project, of which it will be the focal point. Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, a nephew of Saudi King Abdullah, is chairman of the Kingdom Holding Company, a partner in JEC.

"Our vision for Kingdom Tower is one that represents the new spirit of Saudi Arabia," Adrian Smith, co-founder of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the firm that designed the tower, said in a press release. "This tower symbolizes the Kingdom as an important global business and cultural leader, and demonstrates the strength and creative vision of its people."

Foundation work for the $1.2 billion skyscraper began in December, and above-ground work will start April 27. The 200-floor tower will be located in Jeddah, a culturally significant city near the Red Sea that is known as the gateway to Mecca.

A building this size doesn't come without its challenges, however. Concerns include resistance to salt water and high winds, as well as how concrete will be delivered to higher floors, as the tower is erected. The construction site itself is 5.7 million square feet, and the project will require around 80,000 tons of steel, according to the Saudi Gazette. Despite these potential roadblocks, the skyscraper is still a realistic undertaking that could eventually be seen through to completion, Construction Weekly reported.

Kingdom Tower will house a Four Seasons hotel, luxury condominiums, office space and an observatory.
