Using Dynamic Blockist to counter 0-day attacks - R&D project from ISAP interns.

THE PROBLEM of "Zero-Day" Threat:
A zero-day attack uses a previously unidentified vulnerability or malware artifact that has no known signature

The Danger: Traditional security relies on "signatures" (like a digital fingerprint) to recognize threats. Because zero-day attacks are brand new, signature-based defenses are often too slow, leading to a successful infection rate of over 50%.

The Speed Gap: It can take days, weeks, or months to develop a manual patch for a new exploit—way too slow for the internet’s fluid environment.

The Solution is to track the "Where" instead of the "What"
IP-Based Reputations: Instead of trying to identify every new piece of malware (the "what"), dynamic blocklists track hostile servers (the "where")
IP Reputation Services (TRS): These automated systems assign scores to IP addresses based on their behavior. If a server is known to be hostile, it gets a bad reputation score

Force Multiplier: This automated approach acts as a "force multiplier" for security teams, protecting the network at the speed of detection rather than manual investigation!

As a company that welcomes interns, we’re thrilled to help shape the next wave of talent — but here’s the part the highlight reels often skip. Taking interns isn’t just about giving someone a desk and a shiny badge. We invest real hours mentoring, training, and equipping students with skills the industry needs (but doesn’t always have the time to teach itself).

And while the 10K allowance looks fantastic from the student side, who is going to foot the bill? If the gov't is the one that does provides it - ultimately the cost is pushed down to Companies in the form of higher taxes. So this 10K lands squarely as an added cost for us.

On paper, it’s “supportive.” In practice, it’s more like sponsoring someone’s growth while running a mini training academy on the side — and picking up the bill. Further, the incentive pushes out the intrinsic motivation in exchange for extrinsic ones.

But interns don’t just hang around observing. They ask the “why’s,” dig into research, chase down ideas, and end up contributing to the broader knowledge ecosystem in ways that surprise even us.

We’re proud to do it — we believe in developing future talent — but let’s just acknowledge the full picture: offering internships is an investment of time, resources, and money, all to help build the industry’s future workforce. And if that isn’t commitment, we don’t know what is.
