I think it's very important, as an artist, to highlight people that had a significant impact on your craft when in infancy stages.
Two people that (probably unknowingly) that had a great impact on me locally are and , known as Hackett & Le Platte back in the 90's, their comic strips in local newspapers played a significant roll in my development as an up and coming artist.
Rewind to circa 1998, one of the earlier "Comicons" in T&T took place at, the then, Holiday Inn on Wrightson Road.
To my surprise I was asked to display some of my work at the event (needless to say, I was like "ME?! Really?!")
On the day of the event, my illustrations, crudely drawn by hand with pencils, marker and coloured pencils, hand cut with scissors, are plastered on a wall....and both James and Warren walked up to the space and say "These characters are really cool, well done!"
You guys probably had no idea at the time, but those words of encouragement played a massive roll in my own development and ultimately in making the decision to become a full time artist.
Always heroes in the arts in my books, hats off to you both and a giant, heartfelt THANK YOU for your support to a young budding artist ❤️👊🤘
