On the night of August 5-6, Apple announced three new initiatives to protect underage iPhone, iPad and Mac users. They are aimed at detecting material containing signs of child abuse and limiting search functions for prohibited content. These mechanisms will take effect later this year with the release of iOS 15.
Only those photos that are uploaded to the cloud will be analyzed. But the analysis will be done only on the device.
This is done with a special toolkit, which is based on the work of neural networks and machine learning. He monitors for signs typical of candid shots involving minors. If Apple detects photographs with signs of child abuse, it will forward this information with all the details of the owner to the competent authorities. On the one hand, it's good that Apple has eliminated the human factor from its photo analysis. This will ensure that no one in the company will be able to see your photos. But, on the other hand, Apple will still rummage through our smartphones, albeit somewhat indirectly. And this is not the best scenario for fighting for confidentiality. However, this does not apply to images stored entirely locally. How Siri will change in iOS 15
IOS 15 will expand Siri and search functionality to help kids and their parents feel safe while using the internet. For example, now users will be able to ask the voice assistant where to report child abuse or exploitation of minors' labor, and Siri will immediately prompt this information.
