It's always interesting to see my fellow marketers and web designers resort to cheap theater just to get a click.

They send classic agency "fear-mongering cold pitch" emails disguised as an urgent compliance alert. They took a few real updates from Google and buried them under a mountain of copy, a random pitch for an SMS calendar, and an unsolicited audit offer.

The entire pitch relies on hoping the recipient is too overwhelmed by day-to-day operations to question the logic. It is the marketing equivalent of a mechanic looking under the hood, sucking air through their teeth, and telling you your johnson rod is about to blow up the transmission.

By framing it as a "default theme config" issue, they create a phantom menace. A store or business owner reads that and thinks, "Wait, did my web designer set that up right three years ago?" It plays on the exact type of technical insecurity that makes people open their wallets.

It is the ultimate corporate gaslighting. Calling it a "passive scam" is exactly right because it lives in that greasy grey area where they aren't technically stealing your moola, but they are intentionally manufacturing anxiety to steal your time and attention.

What makes it so insidious is the psychological framing. He writes it with this breathless, insider-intel gravity using short, clipped sentences like he's a wartime general giving you a tactical briefing. Just to tell you to check a return policy and turn off an email toggle. It’s pure theater designed to make a business owner think, "Oh god, what else am I missing?" so they surrender and book the call.

At least it makes for a great reminder of exactly how I do not communicate with people.

I don't operate this way. My approach is pretty simple: I handle the tech stuff, solve the backend issues before they become emergencies, and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. You get straight answers, clear strategy, and the peace of mind that your tech stack is completely handled without the manufactured drama.

Have you had this happen to you? I'm here to help you break that cycle.

They tell you in business to look for partners who challenge you, but honestly, the bar has been set too high. My best corporate boyfriend doesn't talk back, looks magnificent in a tailored coat, and tackles massive obstacles with unwavering confidence just because I asked him to. Try finding a marketing executive who matches that level of dedication. πŸ˜… The real magic happens when you realize that despite all that athletic substance and strategic genius, the entire operation can still be completely brought to its knees by a single yellow cupcake with sugar frosting. Happy birthday buddy. πŸ₯³πŸ¦„

Word of mouth is wonderful. It means you're good at what you do and the people around you know it. It can create a comfortable, profitable business.

But it also keeps a ceiling on your growth, because a personal network only stretches so far.

The shift happens when marketing takes over the heavy lifting. That looks like people finding you who don't already know you, reading your work, and showing up to a conversation already mostly convinced. It’s the client who says, "I've been following you for a while," or "I found you when I was searching for exactly this."

Ultimately, it's about your reputation traveling further than you can carry it personally. Giving people a clear reason to trust your expertise before they've ever met you.

Everyone is talking about that retailer with the big green signage. 🐴

This is heartbreaking to watch, especially for the brands who have spent years building trust with customers through Dover's reach. The hard truth is this is exactly the moment to build something you actually own. A direct channel that doesn't depend on any retailer, wholesaler, or PE-backed distribution deal going sideways on you.

For any brand navigating this right now, you have options: lean into your existing DTC site with stronger creative and a real strategy behind it, build out your email list and talk directly to your customers, optimize your marketplace presence, or find wholesale partners who aren't overleveraged. All of the above if you're ready to move.

I work specifically with equine brands on exactly this. Performance creative, ecommerce strategy, brand work that actually converts. Lifetime equestrian, so I actually know your buyer. Happy to connect with anyone figuring out next steps.

The racing world just witnessed a milestone that will be etched into the record books forever. Cherie DeVaux has become the first female trainer to win the Kentucky Derby, proving that barriers are meant to be broken.

This wasn't just a standard victory; it was a masterclass in tenacity. Golden Tempo was positioned dead last at the final turn, a spot where many would have given up hope. But the ride, the timing, and the sheer grit of the team turned the "impossible" into reality.

As Cherie herself stated, she stands as a representative for women everywhere, proving that we can achieve "anything we set our minds to." There is a specific kind of grit that begins in the dirt of a practice ring, fueled by the dreams of a young girl who sees a horse and sees her entire world.

This win is for every woman who has been told a ceiling is too high or a field is too traditional. Whether you are in the stables or the boardroom, it is a reminder that our career paths do not have to be linear to be legendary.

To all the visionaries rooting from the sidelines: your time is coming. Let’s celebrate this historic moment and keep pushing for the next one. Congratulations, Cherie and all the connections! 🐎

Custom type face and all. Incredible new branding for Premier Jumping League (PJL). Kudos to Not Wieden+Kennedy in the UK on the design work. Visual inspiration was a "rail". Yeah, that thing we're all trying to jump over and keep up that is light as a darn feather at 1.60m!
"The PJL hopes its new brand identity will help transform jumping into a global cultural phenomenon and cement its place at the forefront of the industry."

πŸ“£ Just launched a fresh new site for Thomson's favorite hometown spot Hogie Joe's Sports Grill! πŸ”πŸΊ Amy and her team have been serving McDuffie County's #1 award-winning burgers since 2010 and they deserved a digital home that finally matches the legend. Big flavor. Great people. Just in time for Masters! 🏌️
