When we build a data center, it comes with four commitments to the community — and Aiken is no exception. Here's what that means for us:

⚡ Energy — Enabling our facility with clean energy and we pay the full costs of our data centers’ energy use so they aren’t passed on to consumers, and fund new and upgraded infrastructure.

👷 Jobs — Creating hundreds of construction and permanent roles, plus supporting skilled trades across the region.

🌱 Environment — Here in Aiken we are piloting mass timber construction with ~41% lower embodied carbon, restoring more water than we use, and preserving over 50% of our campus for natural habitats.

🤝 Local Communities — Investing in grants, workforce development, and long-term partnerships right here in Aiken County.

These aren't just promises — they're how we show up as a neighbor. Learn more about how Meta data centers support communities across the country:

Our AI-optimized data centers are an investment in the future of the US economy, and we’re committed to supporting the communities where we have data centers through responsible energy use, job creation, water stewardship, philanthropic giving, and more.

The mural should capture what makes Aiken special: our entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, community collaboration, and rich culture — from our equestrian heritage to our growing role as a hub for technology and advanced research.

📅 Submissions due: June 1, 2026
📧 Send materials to: [email protected]

If you're a local artist with a vision for Aiken's future, we'd love to see your concept. Learn more and submit your proposal today!

Big news in clean energy ☀️🔋

Meta announced two partnerships pushing the boundaries of what's possible for powering AI infrastructure.

We're working with Overview Energy to bring solar power from space to Earth—satellites collecting sunlight around the clock and beaming it to solar farms on the ground. And we're partnering with Noon Energy on ultra-long-duration storage that can hold clean energy for days, not just hours.

These are the kinds of investments that help strengthen the grid and support reliable power for our data center operations here and across the country.

🌎🧊 April is Earth month — and we're proud to share a closer look at the water restoration work happening in Los Lunas.

Water is a shared and vital resource — and at Meta, our goal is to become water positive in 2030. That means restoring more water than we consume in our operations, while partnering with local communities to boost supply, enhance quality, and protect ecosystems.

In this video, our Water Program leads share what drives this work — and how projects near the Rio Grande are helping move toward that goal.

Happy Earth Day!

Today we’re celebrating local conservation in action with one of our recent Data Center Community Action Grant recipients, the South Carolina Bluebird Society.

They’ve begun setting up five bluebird nesting boxes on our site to create a Bluebird Trail — supporting bluebird conservation and providing the resources needed to monitor the trail over time.

Because our site features native habitat designed to reduce irrigation, it offers the kind of healthy, low-impact environment bluebirds (and other wildlife) can thrive in.

Stay tuned for updates as the trail comes to life.

Something pretty cool is taking shape right here in Aiken County 🌲

The Aiken Data Center features an administration building constructed with mass timber — sustainably sourced wood engineered for strength and durability. This innovative approach reduces embodied carbon by approximately 41% compared to traditional steel and concrete.

It's one of many ways we're working toward net zero emissions in 2030, and we're proud to bring this kind of innovation to our community.

See how Fast Company covered this milestone:

Mass timber is one way to offset the environmental downsides of a data center, but it could also be a way to build them faster.
