Install of the Week🛠️

This week, our team completed some much-needed WiFi improvements to help keep this dairy operation connected and running efficiently!

The project included:
🛜 Installing a new access point in a new sand separator
🛜 Running conduit from the enclosure to the mechanical room wall
🛜 Pulling Cat5 cable through the conduit and completing the U7 setup

A strong network is the backbone of today’s dairy technology, helping support the systems producers rely on every day!🐄

Dairy History: 1884 🐄📜

Did you know the first milk bottle in the United States was invented because of a sanitation problem?

In the late 1800s, milk was delivered door-to-door in large metal cans. Milkmen would use the same ladle to fill each customer’s container along their route, making it easy for dirt and other contaminants to enter the milk supply.

After seeing the need for a cleaner solution, Dr. Hervey D. Thatcher, a pharmacist from Potsdam, New York, created the first practical milk bottle in 1884. His design allowed milk to be delivered in a sealed container, helping keep it fresher and safer for families.

The invention was a major step forward for the dairy industry and changed the way milk was transported and sold. Dr. Thatcher later became known as the “Father of the Milk Bottle.” 🥛🐄

Thomas joined Dairy Tech looking for a career change after coming from an IT background, and this role has been the perfect fit by combining his technical skills with his interest in the agricultural industry.

What Thomas enjoys most about the job is that even on the toughest days, a cow will do something that makes him laugh and completely turns his day around.

Did you know the first Holstein in the United States arrived in 1852? 🇺🇸

Massachusetts farmer Winthrop W. Chenery purchased a Holstein from the captain of a Dutch sailing ship that had docked in Boston. The cow had been kept on board throughout the voyage to provide fresh milk for the crew. 🚢🥛

After seeing her exceptional milk production, Chenery imported additional Holsteins from the Netherlands in 1857, 1859, and 1861. His success inspired other farmers to begin importing the breed as well, helping establish Holsteins as the foundation of the U.S. dairy industry! 🤍🖤
