Thank you everyone! Shipping will complete for Kickstarter on Tuesday, and website pre-orders will be completed early next week as well. 🙌 It’s always a very vulnerable time when releasing new work. I’m grateful for the kind feedback that has been passed by way so far. So glad so many of you are already enjoying the deck!
It took me over a year to complete this deck. I love how approachable pre-existing artwork can be to create a deck, but it also takes a certain eye to tie it altogether. I worked endlessly swapping paintings from the public domain in and out of the cards. There was this tango that took me a year to settle on the entire visual story of the deck through these unconnected antique artworks.
I enjoyed curating a select range of artistic styles into the cards. Some are more expressive, more loose, more undefined. While others are crisp, clear, and detailed to perfection. There’s this world I try to balance through these unrelated paintings where they can connect even though they were never meant to.
That’s why I also love crediting the original artist in the guidebook. Bringing the old into the new has always been at the core of my creative endeavours. So to give credit to these artists in the current day means a lot to me, and to weave all these diverse stories together as a part of the process. Every decision I make is intentional. There is a narrative, a reason, a purpose behind it.
While this series of decks may just be beautiful paintings, to me they are a connection to my past. An extension to my future. An expression of my present. The theme, the meaning, the representation behind it is important for me to share as a slice of my life.
