Reduce the width of the folders in your main nav. Swipe to see the code.

The default width of the main nav folder is 200px, so any size value smaller than 200px will reduce the default with. You’re also using the min-width property here to allow the folder to be wider if you have long folder names.

Curious about what that 15ch value means? 1ch unit is the width of the “0” character. So 15ch is as wide as fifteen 0’s lined up next to each other. This is a great unit to use when sizing elements (like our folder) based on lengths of text (like links within a folder).

Keep building.

Did you know you can convert color values in the website inspector? Simply hold down on SHIFT and click on any colored box. This will toggle the color value between HSL, HEX, and RGB.

When creating websites, I always like to use the HSL color value. I find it the simplest to build an entire color pallet from. So this trick is super handy for me to convert colors that I see on the web into my preferred color value.

When I was first getting started with building websites and coding, I had a client ask about replacing their logo in their main nav, but only on a specific page of their website.

This client wanted a page on their site that featured a new brand they were planning to launch soon, and they wanted the logo on that page to be the logo of their new brand. Seems simple, but of course, it wasn’t- Squarespace doesn’t have a native way to switch this out, so I was stuck Googling for hours trying to figure out how to make it happen.

I eventually found some code and was able to work it out, but what should have only taken me a few minutes took me a several hours. Ultimately it was worth it, because this experience was one of the first ones that put me on the path to learning code, and I was able to give my client exactly what they wanted.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to replace the Site Title or Site Logo on specific pages within your Squarespace Website.

Marketing is an effort to encourage trust in your business and make sure that people know what you offer and how it could benefit them. This process is a lot less linear. I prefer to think of the customer’s journey less of moving from one step to the next, and more as kind of swirling around in a twisty marketing-phase cloud until the customer decides to make a purchase.

New Tutorial: Make background images blurry and other fun effects.

A tutorial on adding blur effects in Squarespace. I will go over adding this effect in Squarespace 7.1, but if you’re on Squarespace 7.0, I have some code for you at the bottom. Blurring an image is actually quite simple through CSS, all we need to use is the filter property.

New post about switching the month and day fields on Squarespace forms. Don't use CSS!

Let’s switch the date and month fields from MM/DD/YYYY to DD/MM/YYYY. Us American’s (as well as a few other stragglers) are sticking to our confusing date configurations. And as long as Squarespace doesn’t update their form date fields, you will also have to deal with it.
