Nürburgring Memory
1934 Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3
By 1935, the Tipo B P3 was already nearing the end of its competitive life.
At the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, Tazio Nuvolari faced the vastly more powerful Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union teams on their home ground.
After more than four hours of racing and 22 laps of the circuit, Nuvolari won in the Alfa Romeo.
It remains one of the defining victories in Grand Prix history — not simply because of the result, but because of what Nuvolari and the P3 overcame to achieve it.

Vittorio Jano’s P3 was already one of the defining Grand Prix cars of its generation when, a year later, Tazio Nuvolari took one to the Nürburgring and defeated the formidable German teams on their own ground.

It became one of those moments when the automobile, the driver and the circumstances moved beyond competition and into history.

I am honored that Line Held in Silence has received Gold in the Exposure One Awards.

This image is part of an ongoing study of significant automobiles through light, form, and restraint.

At first, the car nearly disappears. What remains is line, proportion, tension, and silence — the essential presence of the object held just long enough to be seen differently.

For me, this is where the work begins: not in describing the automobile, but in allowing its form to reveal something quieter, more enduring, and more human.
