In the Winter of 2016 I (Jeremy Lucas) undertook building a DIY Artificial Pancreas system using the amazing technologies developed by Ben West, Dana M Lewis, and Scott Liebrand in OpenAPS. I enjoyed researching and developing the system that would be a life and time saving device to help manage my Type 1 Diabetes. I found that I was spending double the time tinkering and tweaking as well as becoming a personal full time Linux Sys Admin for my Pancreas. This was just not sustainable even with a full time technology job. In April of 2016 I began researching alternatives to OpenAPS and found Nate Racklyeft and Pete Schwamb working on a small hardware device and elegant software called Nateraid (Loop). I approached Pete Schwamb about building a 100 RileyLinks. I would setup a website and make them available to others who wanted to help develop and use the software that Nate was building. Those initial 100 RileyLinks turned into 5000 over the past 3 years. We still have the same mission. To make this life saving technology available to as many people as we can.
