¡¡THIS POST IS FROM LAST JULY, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS VALID ENOUGH TO REPOST DURING HIGH SEASON!!
*FRIENDS!* I am going to ignore the embarrassment I feel in the hopes that someone that needs to see this, will. I spent the first 20 hours of my UK trip in sheer panic. I thought I had lost my passport. I flew overnight and m a y b e got 50 minutes of sleep {eight hour flight}. HORRIBLE seat mates. When I arrived at LHR, I quickly realized my debit card wasn’t working. I was tired and a little out of it when my British Airways flight attendant started harassing me about the size of my carryon on my regional flight • fit perfectly under my seat on the first leg • was asked to put it in an overhead bin at the front of the plane? Fine. I get to our hotel and realize my passport was NOT with me. Like, turning bags over and shaking them out kind of panic. I’ve never done this before and have no concept of how difficult it may or may not be to find a solution to not only travel abroad, but return to the US. I began to trace back where I could have lost it and got on Edinburgh airports website. For those of you that don’t know, if you report a passport missing to the police, consulate or Embassy, it is immediately invalid. The airport here has a service called ‘Lost Baggage.’ Its sole purpose is to locate air travelers missing items. SOMEHOW, my passport was found • where, I don’t have any idea. I paid £27.50 as a retrieval fee and it’s the best money I will spend while over here. MORAL OF THE STORY • Chill out and think through what services might be available before reporting a missing item or document. From what our INCREDIBLY HELPFUL concierge told me yesterday, it isn’t terribly difficult anymore to get a temporary replacement and it happens all the time, BUT, it’s just better if you can locate it! After spending time and money to get back and forth to the airport today, CRISIS ADVERTED!! 🪗 Moving forward and going to try to NEVER do that again!! 🤦🏻♀️

Did you know I went to the UK last summer?! It was during my unintentional travel advisor hiatus!
