Time spent in nature is renewing and rewarding. I travel to natural spaces to find inspiration for my art, snapping photos and drawing sketches as I hike. Once home, I distill the subject into its essential elements; forms are simplified and colors enhanced. Acrylic paint is used in bold color combinations, which vibrate on the canvas. My goal is to share the beauty I find in nature with others; to create joy, awe, appreciation, and curiosity through vibrant imagery.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cara Jackson was born in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1985. She grew up next to acres of forest and regularly visited National Seashores along the Outer Banks, which fostered her love of nature. Since childhood Cara has used paint, pen, and pencil to create illustrations and play with color. The combination of her love of nature and art led her to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Appalachian State University, which sits high in the mountains near the Appalachian Trail.
After graduation, warmer weather and a bustling creative community drew her to Austin, Texas when she pursued a career in graphic design. She continued to paint and her style began to shift, taking on a brighter and flatter quality. In 2014, she left Austin to travel the Western United States by R.V., spending time in National Parks and Forests. She returned to Austin later that year, feeling inspired by the desert and canyon landscapes she had discovered.
