It's Digital Rebar Christmas in August. 🎄

v4.17 is here. It's built around the four pillars we see in our top operators: speed, vendor choice, change management, and scale.

A few highlights:

Speed: The new Operator View (preview) gives fleet operators a role based, no clutter dashboard. Less navigation, faster action, faster ramp for new team members.

Vendor choice: Pipelines are now a top level object with a new "prepare" phase that runs before machines even exist. Better failure handling, easier to add new hardware vendors.

Change management: Eikon (image deployment) is now GA and the default for image based deployments. That's critical as AI hardware accelerates OS and image churn. Content Archive is also GA: package your entire data center, bootstrap, security, and DR, as one known good artifact.

Scale: Multi Site Manager's replication engine got a major performance and durability upgrade, built to exceed 50,000 server deployments. Plus a full UX refresh, including the most requested feature: light and dark mode.

We just watched an operator go from nothing to fully running AI infrastructure in under 20 minutes. That's the bar.

Arm64 is a production reality. NVIDIA's Grace architecture is running at scale, right now, and it doesn't play by x86 rules.

The performance-per-watt gains are real. The CPU + GPU + DPU consolidation is real. But so is this: the tooling that's run your infrastructure for a decade quietly assumes an architecture that's no longer the only game in town.

That's the trap.

Teams deploy their first Grace-based servers, fire up the same provisioning playbook they've always used… and watch it fall apart. Not with a loud failure. With a slow realization that the assumptions baked into their stack don't hold anymore.

This is a generational shift, not a hardware refresh.

The teams that thrive will do two things:
→ Move to architecture-agnostic tooling
→ Validate hardware state BEFORE provisioning, not after

The teams that don't? They'll spend the next two years patching around a problem they could have designed out from the start.

We made a video breaking down exactly how to prepare your stack for the Arm64 era, and where the hidden failure points are.

Which side of this shift will your team be on?

Still managing bare metal the hard way?

When infrastructure demand spikes, manual processes turn into outages, delays, and weekend work. RackN Digital Rebar makes bare metal operations repeatable—so scaling feels like a workflow, not an emergency.

See how to:
✅ Automate provisioning + lifecycle operations
✅ Speed up refresh cycles with fewer surprises
✅ Maintain consistency across OEMs and environments
✅ Build a foundation for platform choice ( , , / )

Would you try to use AI in your everyday operations processes?

In this video, an operator asks an AI assistant to help manage bare metal, configure a server, and recover a failure. It goes about as well as you would expect.

We go into a lot more detail on why AI isn’t ready for use in IT infrastructure here: https://rackn.com/blog/ai-isnt-enough-for-it-operations/

Two spaceship crewmembers. One black hole. And yet the real enemy is a VMware licensing limit.

This situation is fictional but the challenge behind it is real. Sudden demands for more VM clusters can change from a standard process to an emergency quickly when you start hitting licensing limits out of the blue.

To prevent this issue, we recommend you
- Inventory what you actually have running
- Get control of the hardware layer
- Find ways to test alternatives without breaking production
- And use vendor-neutral automation for easier transitions

To get started on these steps, schedule a demo with us today: https://rackn.com/schedule/

A customer racked brand new Dell servers, powered them on, and ran the same automation they'd used successfully for years.

It failed. 🚨

Turns out Dell changed a Redfish API call from writable to read-only in iDRAC 10 — before the official spec was updated. No warning. No flag. No way to know until your automation breaks.

The result? Three compounding problems:
1️⃣ The spec hadn't officially changed
2️⃣ Now two different Redfish behaviors exist simultaneously
3️⃣ There's no way to detect it until it fails

This is the reality of bare metal operations. The ground shifts under you — even when you do everything right.
