Adam Sutherland is the Worldwide Public Sector Strategy Lead for the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center (GenAIIC), where he guides government, education, healthcare, and nonprofit customers through their generative AI journeys — from ideation through production deployment. Prior to AWS, Adam served as CEO of AppTek, a neural network speech recognition and machine translation company serving Department of Defense and national security customers.
Adam’s career spans global strategy leadership roles including Senior Vice President at National Geographic, where he led international expansion across digital, education, and commerce; strategic transformation at Discovery Communications and Travel Channel; and 11 years in Asia as Global Managing Director at Ogilvy & Mather (Singapore), strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company, and VP of International for Encyclopedia Britannica. He holds a BA in East Asian Studies and Business Administration from the University of Illinois, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and is fluent in Japanese.
