New render feature in Unity URP for realistic starfield backgrounds ... it uses a shader written in HLSL to draw the stars from the Yale Bright Star Catalog dataset. These are some early steps toward customizing Unity for a space simulation style game.

This has given rise to some new 3D/2D tools for planet design and terraforming ... we're going to end up building the whole star system this fantasy/sci-fi story takes place in and you'll be able to see and play with it in some really cool and unique ways no other project or high fantasy/sci-fi series has ever done.

Since everything worked, I beefed up the dev-ops pipeline and rewrote it as a multi-stage pipeline to export our processed data as artifacts and validate it. Now we can build on that and add stages to do things like upload data to an AWS S3 bucket and run AI/ML training pipelines for our SLMs (small language models) and tools ... it's a good feeling to run a pipeline like this and see everything get a "green light" (success/OK status)!

So, now we have an automatic feedback loop mechanism ... we write, design and do art and push it into our project repo, the wiki gets generated/updated and expanded as we go, then the wiki becomes a corpus of canonical knowledge to use downstream with other tools and models, which then makes our tools and models generate better and more accurate encyclopedic wiki content and it goes in a loop ... eventually, I will produce enough data for training the real-time "dungeon master" and "lore master" models that are trained to know my sci-fi/fantasy universe and generate dynamic quests, events, dialogues, etc. Breaking away from linear campaigns and static storytelling is basically a "holy grail" for the game industry, and that is essentially what we're bootstrapping and creating ... from nothing but one crazy person who wants to revive the lost glory days of the arts (fantasy literature, games, film, etc).

We'll be adding some more stages and infrastructure to this to make the entire creative process more seamless ... for instance, I will probably add some stages to build vector databases for RAG/search next, and use some custom C #/.NET applications and scripts to store artifacts in S3, call a web API and synthesize/format data for future SLM training pipelines.

🚀 Arkaen DevOps & the World of Aerde

One of the more exciting projects we’ve been working on is the Aerde universe knowledge system—a blend of Azure DevOps, automation, and good old-fashioned world-building.

We set up a full wiki in DevOps as the encyclopedic backbone of Aerde’s lore. The interesting part isn’t just the content—it’s the scaffolding around it. Pipelines can scan manuscripts or drafts, generate new wiki entries, track what’s missing, and keep a versioned record of everything in Git. The same wiki data can flow straight into our Unreal Engine 5 game project, into websites, or into training sets for AI/ML models.

The goal isn’t to have machines write novels or build games on their own. It’s to cut out the endless, repetitive work—creating thousands of pages, fixing formatting, doing tens of thousands of clicks—so writers, artists, and developers can focus on the fun parts: story, art, and design. Small creative teams should be able to take on projects that feel “AAA-scale” without burning themselves out.

From here, we’re extending into more interactive uses. Think Dungeon Master agents that can generate quests, dialogue, and events dynamically inside a game—agents that run locally on your device, without cloud APIs, lag, or subscription gates. Using small language models tuned with ONNX Runtime, it’s possible to have NPCs that remember you, worlds that evolve with your choices, and gameplay that responds in ways that feel alive.

Most of the AI industry is focused on giant, corporate-scale models designed to replace people. We’re more interested in tools that amplify creativity—systems that help individuals and small teams build ambitious works without losing the human spark that makes them worth playing or reading.

This is part of Arkaen’s mission: to build practical, creator-focused infrastructure that bridges storytelling, game development, and machine learning. If that resonates with you, follow along. Independent efforts like this live and die on visibility, and every bit of support helps.
