The MassArt auction! Attended for the first time last night and as you can hear the live auction had some exciting moments… Cindy Sherman photo going up up up.

Lovely to support this institution. First image is their dorm bldg across from the main Tower building, it’s beautiful day and night.

Already well into Troublemaker about muckraker Jessica Mitford and thoroughly enjoying.
When Women Were Birds, gifted to me by a friend, is a wonderful entry into the world of Terry Tempest Williams. The Glorians is her latest. She’s a fierce ally and more of what we need right now.
That and birds!. Some say it’s a sign of old age to enjoy birds, I believe it’s a sign of a thoughtful life and noticing what the world needs now. Thank you Amy Tan.
Writer Olivia Laing and Chantal Joffe became friends and created a monograph about their friendship often deep in conversation about their painting and writing. Love being a fly on the wall. And Olivia’s beautiful language around Chantal’s inimitable personal oeuvre.
Joan Eardley is a Scottish painter that I admire greatly, there’s an exhibition of her work right now at the National Galleries of Scotland, wish I could be there. The Artist’s Palette looks at 50 famous artists’ palettes. Right in my color-loving wheelhouse.
And well I couldn’t resist reading a take on How Painting Happens and Why It Matters…🤔😊

What are you reading?

Needed to post something inspiring. This is a quick oil pastel I created in a recent workshop with looking at Gabrele Münter’s artwork. It makes me happy to look at it, I cannot tell you why. (Thank you ) Scroll left to see Munter’s original artwork. There’s an exhibition of Münter’s work at the Guggenheim in NYC through April 26th, maybe I’ll get there.😊

Rückenfigur

Visitation: Artist at the Window Collage, 19.5”x 25.5” framed In naming this collage for a juried show, I came across the term Rückenfigur (translated directly: back-figure). It's a compositional device that uses a foregrounded figure, seen from behind, contemplating the view before them. Often...

Quick sketch of my hands, each using opposite hand, awkward fun. Love what the lefty can do when pressed into service. Swipe left. Maybe this is a message/lesson for our world today about non dominant beauty.

I love the feeling in this piece, a messy room, a window with the sea, sea foam? beyond, curtains wafting, a little chair, south of France? … leaves you to dream. Or just abstraction. Memories, dreams, reflections.

Below is my toast, the one I forgot to give last night in the wonderful melee of seeing everyone. Am blessed with such good friends. The evening warmed my heart. Thank you for coming out!

To Truth and Beauty

To Truth
(because we can probably agree we could use a lot more of it these days, but also) because it is the handmaiden of Beauty.
And to Beauty (with a capital B, transcendent, mysterious, comfortable with contradiction, and full of possibility) because it delights us and enlarges our lives.

To Truth and Beauty.✨
