Just ran across another TV comparison between Sony's and LG's Top dog displays.

This comparison was done by Ton's Guide who are a legitimate and highly regarded reviewer. At the end of the day, the LG G5 65" OLED edged the Sony offering by a very small "point count" margin...100 to 95 awarded points. Their conclusion is the comparison was a Tie but went on to recommend the LG as their Go-To choice due to LG's pricing.

As I have often quipped, all OLED TV Displays offer a spectacular viewing experience so one essentially can't go wrong with any brand's offerings.

I've posted remarks about the Multi-Zone capabilities of Denon AVR's. The full extent of the Multi-Zone capabilities is determined by the exact AVR in question.

To be clear, as one moves up the ladder of products, more options become available and are "natively" supported. Entry level AVR's are limited to 2 independent Zones and the more-better AVR's support 3 independent Zones.

The other significant difference between models is not limited to the specified amplifier wattages. Adequate wattage is important to safely drive your loudspeakers at the levels typical to your listening behavior and habits. That said, upper-level models are also equipped with more amplifier channels and enhanced power capabilities. Having more onboard amplifiers supports more system flexibility.

Today, Surround Sound environments can be deployed to support the latest decode modes such as Dolby Atmos and dts-X Pro. These anticipate numerous loudspeakers including "Overhead Units" This can result in systems commonly designated as: 7:2.4
of 7.4.4, etc. The first number represents the floor/ear level number of speakers. the second number represents the number of sub-woofers and the last digit represents the overhead speakers. Note, there are numerous other opportunities available as well.

Examples:
5.1, 5.2, 7.1 or 7.2. These designations infer that the deployed system IS NOT a Dolby Atmos or dts-X Pro configuration. If one acquires a Denon AVR-X-8500 H(A) product, that model is equipped with 13 discrete audio channels. If a 7.2 configuration is deployed, what happens to the 6 unused and remaining channels?

Those very amp channels can be reassigned to drive loudspeakers in the other two zones. Moreover, each discrete zone's audio settings can be independently configured as to Turn-On Volume, Bass, Treble, and Max Volume within the Denon software. These rather unique capabilities do underscore why one needs to carefully analyze and plan for their system needs and requirements.

I am enclosing a photo the clearly depicts one such Multi-Zone System for your review. One last comment, I forgot to mention that the AVR's are also Multi-Source compliant, which simply means that each zone is not constrained to playing the same source as the Main Zone. Do note that the 8500 model is displaying three discrete Sources for the three discrete audio zones.

Earlier this week, I posted an article about the FTC's clamp-down on bogus reviews and referrals. Sadly, the current dynamic is rife with too many questionable referrals and reviews. I'd suspect that the rather recent addition of "AI Technology" will only exacerbate and further expand on this troubling issue.

Extremely knowledgeable and professional! Mike came to our home and walk us through all the available options for our home theater. This can be overwhelming but he was able to simplify everything so we could understand. He not the cheapest in town, but as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for." Over the years I have worked on numerous projects with Sound Plus Wood. I know of no other firm who is as knowledgeable in all audio / visual electronics, integrated systems ( electric / hvac / custom key pads / remote access ) , thru alarm systems, security cameras / beams / Wi-Fi. Sound Plus Wood is Mike Moran, and Mike Moran is Sound Plus Wood. Mike founded the company some 40 years ago, and I first hired him to improve my living room sound system in 1991. Ever since that first experience, Mike has been my go-to guy for anything relating to audio-video and even networking considerations. He has done several jobs for me since, and has stood firmly behind his recommended products, and even more strongly behind his own workmanship. Lest you think, "Yeah, yeah, yeah...Mike is probably a friend, so what am I to expect?" You'd be right. Mike is a friend, but he became a friend as a result of his professional relationship with me; I never knew of him prior to the first time he worked for me.

Another Reprobate & Subsequent Remedy:

We were called-in to assist with reconnecting a Comcast STB, DirecTV Rec'r, and TV after a kitchen remodel had completed. Clearly, a very basic task for anyone in the AV business. That process only required a few minutes of labor to complete. That said, after completing the hook-up, one of the two Source Devices failed to connect and provide a picture. I asked the house manager where the "Head End" was located. She was unfamiliar with the term, Head End, which is totally understandable. I was directed to the garage location and found an OnQ Structured Wiring enclosure. Upon opening the door to the enclosure, I was greeted by the Jack-N-the -Box cabling deployment.

Rod Stewart has a well-known song by the name of "Every Picture Tells a Story". The enclosed pictures represent the before and after pictures of the very same project.

Custom AV Integration:
As a counterpoint to last week's post regarding custom audio-video deployment and integration, I thought it might be helpful to provide another perspective.
Accordingly, I am enclosing a photo on a more-better deployment approach. This project utilized custom Middle Atlantic 19" pull-out rack mounts. The AV components are installed with Middle Atlantic's custom rack mount shelves. Adequate ventilation is also provided via MA vent panels.
This AV System is comprised of a Denon AVR-X8500HA Reference Receiver, LG 55" OLED 4K Display, AppleTV 4K Streamer Module, Kaleidescape's Movie and Music Server, DirecTV 4K Satellite Receiver, Luxul 24 Port PoE Ethernet switch, Crestron Smart Home Control Processor with accompanying hand-held remote control, and a Snap One Surge and Power Conditioner that provides the ability to remotely reboot all AV Appliances.
The Crestron Processor controls the entire property including Lighting, AV distribution, HVAC, and Security, i. e, it is what is commonly referred to as a Smart Home.
