When we worked on Liz Compos’s brand, the goal was to capture her unique essence as an artist while keeping things minimal to let her work shine. We created an organic pattern inspired by her jade carvings and used a bold pink, green, and black palette to bring her creative personality into the identity, resulting in a look that feels minimal and modern yet expressive and spirited.

One more look at the Jubi brand ✨

To bring the Jubi brand to life, we used a color palette that is fun and energizing, photography that shows joyful women, organic shapes and patterns, and messaging that speaks to the benefits of play. These come together to create a brand identity that resonates with women and redefines play as a form of self-care instead of a frivolous act for children.

A final look at the Feral Fig brand. The messaging speaks to the rebellious spirit of the brand while reflecting the brand’s guiding principles of going against the status quo, nourishing community, and not trashing the planet.

Feral Fig is all about a low-waste grocery experience, and the packaging plays a key role in this. The company doesn’t use single-use plastics, so we used glass jars that can be returned to the store, sterilized, and reused. We designed labels that can be easily washed off of glass jars to make for an easy washing and refill process. The labels use custom doodle style illustrations to further enhance the fun, handmade feel of the brand.

Here’s a first look at Feral Fig Neighborhood Market. Feral Fig is a low-waste grocery concept that’s on a mission to nourish community without trashing the planet. the_char_row and I created a playfully defiant brand that differentiates this market from other grocery stores and fits with the fun urban vibe of the RiNo neighborhood in Denver.

One of the cool (and difficult) things about design is there is no rulebook—each of us brings our own unique approach to the craft. I’ve put together a little manifesto of my thoughts and “rules” that guide my approach to design and branding. Check it out!

I’ve changed a lot as a designer in the past year and decided to go all in on specializing in branding. Helping people figure out how their brand can help them achieve their business goals and bringing their brand to life is what I love doing and I’m excited to do more of it!

August was a BIG month.

I graduated with my masters in brand and product design. I worked harder than I ever have, but it made me love design even more and I grew as a designer and a person. I learned a ton from my teachers and my classmates, and it’s an experience I am truly grateful for. Most people are probably thrilled to be done with grad school but I was kinda sad. I had a blast!

Later in the month, I got offered a full time position at the agency I’m interning for. So after my internship ends, I will be a brand designer at studiosixbranding! I am excited to continue to grow in this position.

So August brought a lot of big changes but the future is looking bright. 💜

Happy Friday ✨ I have been so focused on growing as a creative professional that I put all of my focus on the professional part and forgot to nurture the creative part. I’ve felt disconnected from my work and like I lost my creative spirit. So this week I decided to make creating for fun my first priority. I played with new styles and techniques every day and didn’t worry about looking impressive or making portfolio worthy work or following all of the rules. My only rule was to have fun making it. And I did have fun.

This week has been more healing and transformative than I imagined it would be. Moving forward, I am going to strike a better balance between focusing on my growth as a professional and creating for fun. It’s so easy to get swept up in the hustle and loose your passion for the things that get your out of bed in the morning. I hope everyone can be mindful of that and find ways to keep their passions alive.
