BearTooth Cyber Defense

BearTooth Cyber Defense We equip organizations to secure their digital future with confidence.

Our founders witnessed firsthand how cyber threats were increasingly targeting smaller communities and regional infrastructure. Traditional cybersecurity companies often overlooked Wyoming businesses or offered one-size-fits-all solutions that didn't account for our state's unique mix of industries, regulatory requirements, and operational environments. So BearTooth Cyber Defense was founded from

a simple but powerful realization: Wyoming's businesses and critical infrastructure deserve the same level of cybersecurity protection as major metropolitan areas, but with solutions tailored to our unique challenges and operational realities.

🎣 Phishing Isn’t Just One Thing… It Comes in Many Forms!

When people hear “phishing,” they usually think of a fake email and they’re right! Email phishing is still the most common type. Those messages pretending to be from your bank, Amazon, or even your boss? Classic.

But that’s just the beginning.

There’s also:
📱 Smishing – phishing through text messages
📞 Vishing – phishing phone calls
🎯 Spear phishing – highly targeted attacks
👔 Whaling – attacks aimed at executives
💬 Social media phishing
…and plenty more in between.

Some of these are common, some are rare, but all of them can cause serious damage if you’re not prepared.

The good news? No need to stress. We help break down every type of phishing, explain how they work, and remind you (and your team) how to stay safe online. 🛡️

Awareness is the first line of defense. We’re here to help every step of the way.

🚨 The “Shelly Flaw” in Smart Home Devices 🚨

A recent vulnerability in devices made by Shelly Group showed how smart home tech can become a security risk if not properly protected.

The flaw could allow attackers to access devices, send commands, or potentially use them as a doorway into your network.

💡 The bigger lesson? IoT devices are convenient but often overlooked when it comes to security.

🛡 Quick Ways to Protect Yourself:

✅ Update firmware regularly
✅ Change default passwords
✅ Put smart devices on a separate Wi-Fi network
✅ Disable remote access if you don’t need it

Smart homes should make life easier, not vulnerable.

Need help locking things down? We’ve got you covered.

🚨 What Is Digital Squatting? 🚨

Digital squatting (also called cybersquatting) happens when someone buys a domain name, social media handle, or website that closely matches your business name — with the intent to profit from it or trick your customers.

For example:
👉 Your business is “ABC Roofing”
👉 Someone registers ABCRooflng.com (notice the small typo)

Now customers could land on a fake site, get scammed, or have their information stolen.

👀 How to Watch Out for It:
✅ Secure your domain name — and common misspellings
✅ Claim your social media handles on all major platforms (even if you don’t use them yet)
✅ Monitor for similar domain registrations
✅ Act quickly if you spot suspicious look-alike websites
✅ Use trademark protection when possible

Digital squatting can damage your reputation, steal customers, and create security risks — but with the right monitoring and protection in place, it’s preventable.

Don’t wait until someone else owns your name online. We can help you secure and monitor your digital footprint before it becomes a problem.

You no longer need to fall for obvious phishing as tiny lookalike domains can trick you into typing or auto-filling your login details.

One verification code shared over the phone can give attackers access to your payment data.

A small business in England is facing a costly dispute after a customer reportedly fooled its AI-powered chat assistant into offering an 80% discount.

The customer spent around an hour chatting with the bot, testing its math and percentage skills, diverting the conversation toward percentage discounts on a theoretical order, and acting impressed before securing the 80% discount.

The customer then placed an order worth more than £8,000, which the business owner says would result in losses running into the thousands. After attempting to cancel the order, the owner was warned by the customer that they would pursue the matter in small claims court if the discounted purchase is not honored.

💾 What is data and why does it matter?

Data is basically information. It can be things like:
• Your name, email, or phone number
• What websites you visit
• What you buy online
• Where you log in from
• Even how long you stay on a page

📦 How is data stored?
Data is stored on:
• Computers and servers
• Cloud platforms
• Apps, websites, and databases

Every time you sign up for something, click a link, or use an app your data is being saved somewhere.

🔑 How is data accessed?
Data can be accessed by:
• The company you shared it with
• Employees with permission
• Software tools and analytics platforms
• Hackers… if security is weak 😬

💰 Can data be bought or sold?
Yes. Some data is:
• Shared with third-party advertisers
• Sold in bulk for marketing or analytics
• Traded legally (and sometimes illegally) without people realizing it

That’s why protecting data isn’t optional. It’s essential.

🔐 The takeaway:
If your business handles data, you’re responsible for protecting it. Strong cybersecurity helps control who can access data, how it’s stored, and where it goes.

👉 Don’t leave your data up for grabs. We’re here to help keep it safe.

🚨 Lack of Security 🚨

“This is how data breaches happen.”
- Probably Yoda, if he worked in IT 👀

Running a business without proper cybersecurity is like leaving the Death Star exhaust port wide open and hoping no one notices. Spoiler alert: hackers always notice.

Phishing scams, weak passwords, and unpatched systems? That’s the dark side at work. 🖥️⚡
But don’t worry—you don’t have to fight the Empire alone. We help businesses strengthen their defenses, train their teams, and keep their data safe.

Because when it comes to cybersecurity…
May the firewalls be with you. 🛡️✨

Shadow AI is spreading across the internet, and no one is really watching.

01/30/2026

🚨 What is Shadow AI? 🚨

Shadow AI is when employees use AI tools (like chatbots or automation tools) at work without IT or security approval. While it might seem helpful, it can quietly put sensitive business and customer data at risk.

⚠️ The risks include:
• Data leaks
• Compliance violations
• Security blind spots
• Inconsistent or unreliable results

👀 Companies need to pay attention and make sure their employees are trained.
The good news? You don’t have to figure it out alone.

💪 Luckily, we’re here to help! From employee training to safe, secure AI policies that protect your business while still letting teams work efficiently.

⚠️ PSA for Businesses Using AI Tools like ChatGPT ⚠️
AI tools can be incredibly helpful… but they’re not the place for personal or sensitive information.

🚫 Don’t enter:
• Client names or contact details
• Passwords or login info
• Financial data
• Internal business documents

Why? Because sharing sensitive info can lead to data exposure, compliance issues, and serious trust damage if that information is ever mishandled or reused.

💡 AI should be used for ideas, drafts, and general guidance, not as a vault for your business data.

The good news? You don’t have to navigate this alone. We help businesses use technology safely and securely, without putting their data (or reputation) at risk.
