I wish more of us understood the power behind the meaning of this quote.

The most important thing you can do with your message – whether it’s a presentation, email, or conversation – is to make sure it’s simple and clear.

If you add too much, if you complicate, if you dilute, if you get too fancy – it detracts.

What I love about “The Handsome” template is:

Many studies show that your audience is going to have a hard time focusing intently for more than 15-20 minutes.

Think about the fact that TED Talks are under 18 minutes long. That's for a reason.

If you take so long to make a point or add so many details, you may be only a third or halfway through your presentation before your audience's attention starts to wander or take a hit.

So think about what you need to cut and what to keep if you only had 20 minutes of undivided attention.

Problems above:
➡️ The slide discusses allocation of resources. While the numbers are stated in whole numbers and percentages, they are difficult to quickly visualize in quantity as they relate to each other.
➡️ There is little visual interest in the slide.
➡️ The total number of spend is not prominent.
➡️ Branding is not strong by using generic red and green for checks and numbers. I should note that the content hierarchy is good.

Solutions:
➡️ Introducing a donut graph allows the quantity for each area to be more clearly visualized as they relate to each other.
➡️ The total number can be displayed very prominently.
➡️ Brand colors and treatments are more prominent.
➡️ Visuals are introduced to highlight each category.

An impactful presentation isn't about fancy transitions, cool visual tricks, or the software you use for your slides.

The most important part is transcending those details and connecting directly with your audience - speaking to them, at their level, and according to their needs to get your point across and make them understand why they should care.
