Where this project came from:
Let me explain how the Xkey-Mod came in to being. I purchased a vehicle that used a proximity device to enable the doors or trunk to be opened as well as to engage the car’s engine. It used the proximity device and that is how you engaged the vehicles services. Never with a physical key! It wasn’t big but there were times that I would have to search for this thing and
sometimes it would fall between the seat and sometimes I would try to leave it in the car and thankfully it would not allow itself to lock like that. It bugged me that I had to carry this thing around even though it didn’t actually stick into a slot in my car anywhere, I just needed it on my person. So I wanted a way to carry this key and not really have to think about it or keep track of it. Now my phone is a different story. I always have it and I use it all the time and I am very careful about keeping track of it and making sure I have it before I leave my house. Hence, the Xkey-Mod was born. We are making:
The Xkey-Mod is a simple device that takes your existing proximity key and integrates it into your existing iPhone or smart phone device and it doesn’t matter if you use a case or not. Also, you can really fix it to anything you keep on your person but the idea is with the phone you carry as you are very likely to keep it with you and to keep up with it! It is simple and profound at the same time and is designed to make your life just a little bit easier.
