The "Native" word and question is one of our all-time favorites. What the heck is "Native"?!?!

Basically, it means you built the App the way it was supposed to be built - as designed by the creators of the platform OF the App.

So, for iOS/Apple - if they designed iOS Apps around Swift and Objective-C then THAT is what they intend for those Apps to be built on.

And, for Android, it's Java and Kotlin.

There are a lot of cute cross-platform solutions out there that everyone constantly hypes up - but those weren't designed by Apple OR Google Android.

So, when you go that cross-platform route you're taking a big risk that they're going to be able to keep up with the bajillion developers and engineers that both Apple and Google have - being multi-trillion dollar companies and all.

And, since Mobile Apps are still relatively new in the scheme of things - they are both CONSTANTLY changing all sorts of things in the code, structure and technology of their programs.

So, by going with a non-Native approach or platform it's like you're trying to constantly hit a moving bullseye.

When done correctly, Native Apps actually cost less, can be developed/built quicker, break less and last longer.

Think about it - if you build it the way Apple and Google says to build it, then wouldn't that be more stable than something some team built to work for both platforms who aren't even part of those companies???

Non-Native code tends to be muddy, confusing and worse, extremely proprietary - which means you have to get someone who knows that platform to help you change and customize stuff.

Again, what's going to give you more options? The bigger platform or the one trying to "streamline" the process, which really is counter-intuitive given how much Apple and Google change everything all the time.

It's crazy that most people don't know what L.A.M.P. even stands for when most people's own websites are built on it.

Most hosts are Linux and Apache based and PHP is one of the most popular and commonly used coding languages in the world.

Wordpress is actually built on LAMP Stack. So, you KNOW a lot of websites are made with it.

And, when you talk about versatility - don't let anybody tell you differently. There are other popular coding languages out there, but none of them is as widely used as LAMP - meaning if you want to be able to always find affordable coders/developers - then don't build on something with a limited amount of Devs. That's how you get stuck and end up paying more.

A lot of supposedly "smart" Devs who have worked at famous or semi-famous internet and tech companies like to tout the languages that those companies use.

THOSE companies use specific languages for VERY specific reasons that usually have a lot to do with scalability, BUT the cost of starting up ON those languages AND maintaining the code AND finding cheap Devs is often the bottle neck that breaks people who try to go that route too early.

Almost no one will ever get big enough to even need to use all that stuff they use and go that route - but Devs who've worked at those companies will all tout it constantly because it's what they know - and what they see their employers using, so it must be the best right? Well, it's the best when you reach that stage, but it'll cost you a whole lot of wasted money if you try it all too early.
