๐Ÿ“’ Sketchbook for Hanabi Film Festival poster project with

Those sketches and doodles are created in the process of brainstorming of the poster illustration concept. With complete creative freedom, first I started exploring objects and keywords in connection with the festival, and sketched out visual ideas.

While digging deeper into keywords related to fireworks and Japanese summer culture, such as summer festivals, goldfish scooping, nostalgia for the countryside and so on, I also wanted to incorporate Portlandโ€™s strong sub-cultural identity and explore how it could infuse with Japanese elements - ideas includes cute shiba dogs cosplaying film characters, parodying one of the showcasing film poster. ๐Ÿ•

IZANAMI .creates is my creative project where I transform global culture and travel-inspired stories into illustrations, surface patterns and everyday items. ๐ŸŒ (scroll down for the each photo descriptions)

Travel has been my biggest source of inspiration. I've collected moments, stories and creative ideas from every part of the corner I visited, and that now live on through IZANAMI, which means "waves to invite, induce, or inspire."

๐ŸŽ‡ The new poster design for Hanabi(means fireworks in Japanese) Film Festival, a fourth annual Japanese film festival taking place this August at Clinton Street Theater in Portland, OR ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

The inspiration of this poster artwork was drawn by titles and motifs from the screening films (such as an egg, eel and water) and I developed into a dark-ish, surrealism themed illustration that reminiscent of those classic Japanese summer horror films ๐Ÿ’€

The film lineup is quite unique focusing mainly on indie / cult films from 60's to the latest, including North American premiere. The festival T-shirt featuring the illustration will be available at the cinema too! (swipe to see the mockup) Go check it out if you'll be around Portland this summer ๐ŸŒž
