When having an intimate meal, it’s common to have flowers or candles decorating the table. Of course, the flowers aren’t necessary for the process of nourishing our bodies.

For humans, necessities of survival such as eating have been hacked to also serve deeper social purposes. The flowers and candles send social signals. i.e. “I spent this extra effort for you.”

S*x is another one we humans love to get creative with. We incorporate flowers, candles... even s*x toys - not because they fulfill our evolutionary necessity of reproduction, but because they aid in our human quest for pleasurable connection.
