Are your employees feeding sensitive client data into unapproved AI tools? 🤖📁

A marketing coordinator uses a public AI chatbot to draft an email campaign, or a manager uploads payroll to an AI spreadsheet tool. Neither thinks they're doing anything wrong—yet confidential data is now flowing through unmonitored systems.

That’s "Shadow AI," and a recent survey revealed that two-thirds of office professionals admit to using AI tools at work—even when they believe it violates company policy.

With regulators like the FTC cracking down and state-level AI regulations multiplying, ignoring AI governance is no longer an option.

Closing the AI compliance gap doesn't mean stopping innovation; it means running a structured audit to gain visibility into what AI tools are accessing your data.

Microsoft isn't going to call you because your computer has a virus. Neither is Apple.

But scammers will.

It often starts with a scary pop-up saying your computer is infected, followed by a phone number telling you to call for help.

Another common approach is an unexpected call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft, Apple, or your IT department.

They may ask you to install remote-access software so they can "check" your computer.

Once they have access, they can show you fake problems, ask for payment, install unwanted software, or try to access sensitive information.

Remember:

⚠️ Real virus warnings don't tell you to call a phone number.
⚠️ Don't install remote-access software because an unexpected caller asks you to.
⚠️ Don't give an unknown caller access to your computer.
⚠️ Never provide passwords, banking information, or payment details.
⚠️ If you're concerned, contact your IT provider using a number you already know.

If someone unexpectedly tells you your computer has a virus, stop and verify before doing anything.

AI tools are becoming part of everyday work, and scammers are taking advantage of that.

An employee wants to try a new AI tool. They search for it, click the first result, and land on a website that looks almost identical to the real one.

They download the app.

But it's fake.

Instead of providing the AI tool, the software can install malware designed to steal saved passwords, browser data, or other sensitive information.

These fake websites can be difficult to spot because attackers copy the design of legitimate websites and often use paid search ads to appear above the real result.

A few simple habits can reduce the risk:

✅ Go directly to the company's official website before downloading software.
✅ Don't assume the first Google result is the legitimate one.
✅ Be especially careful with sponsored search results.
✅ Don't install an AI tool if you can't verify where it came from.
✅ Keep a list of approved AI tools your employees can use.

AI can be useful for your team, but adding a new tool shouldn't mean adding a new security risk.

Verify the source before you download.

Is a smart thermostat or warehouse sensor putting your corporate network at risk? 🌡️🔒

Connected security cameras, badge readers, and HVAC sensors don't look like traditional IT endpoints—but every single one is a tiny computer sitting on the same network as your accounting data and client records.

Exploitation of edge devices and VPNs jumped from 3% to 22% of vulnerability-driven breaches in a single year. Meanwhile, ransomware attacks targeting industrial and operational technology (OT) surged by 64%.

Because attackers rarely attack OT systems head-on, they use weak network segmentation to move laterally from unmanaged edge devices right into critical systems.

Learn how to inventory, segment, and patch your connected devices before an overlooked appliance becomes a company-wide incident.

You search for a familiar website.

The first result looks legitimate.

You click it.

That's all it can take.

Malvertising is a technique where attackers use online advertisements to impersonate legitimate companies, software, or services.

A search for "download Zoom," for example, could show a malicious advertisement designed to look like the real download page.

The same thing can happen when searching for banking websites, password managers, business software, and other popular services.

The dangerous part is that the malicious result can appear right at the top of the page.

Before clicking:

• Look for the actual website rather than automatically choosing the first result.
• Check the domain carefully for unusual spelling or extra characters.
• Don't download software from unfamiliar websites.
• For frequently used services, bookmark the official website.
• Keep browser and endpoint security protections enabled.
• If you're unsure about a download, ask IT before opening it.

A sponsored result is an advertisement, not a guarantee that the website behind it is legitimate.

Slow down, verify the destination, and don't let convenience make the decision for you.

Your vendors, contractors, and SaaS integrations have a key to your business—but when was the last time you checked who was actually using it? 🔑🚪

A cloud security strategy that focuses solely on your employees overlooks one of the biggest risks businesses face today: third-party supply chain vulnerability.

According to Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report, third-party involvement in confirmed breaches doubled to 30% in a single year! When an attacker compromises a vendor, the trusted access that vendor has to your cloud environment instantly becomes the hacker's playground. Research shows that a single vendor breach now impacts an average of 5.28 downstream victim companies—the largest "blast radius" ever recorded.

Stop letting hidden access gaps put your data at risk:
- Standing Access Drift: Contractors leave or IT providers get replaced, but their administrative credentials and cloud permissions are left active.
- Overprovisioned Permissions: Vendors are granted broad administrative rights simply because it's faster than carefully limiting their access to what they actually need.
- Stale API Tokens: SaaS integrations and OAuth permissions silently linger in your workspace long after the contract or project ends.
- Protect your perimeter by establishing a strict vendor vetting process: inventory every single digital connection, tier vendors by data sensitivity, enforce strict least privilege, and build mandatory expiration dates into all third-party access.

Your business spent months rolling out MFA, segmenting networks, and tightening access. But here is the hard truth: Zero Trust isn't a one-time tool purchase you can set and forget. 🛑🛡️

When Zero Trust is treated as a technology project with a finish line rather than an ongoing security strategy, organizations fall victim to Zero Trust Fatigue. Over time, controls decay, policies drift, and today’s strong defenses gradually become tomorrow's weak spots.

Gartner projects that only 10% of large enterprises will have a mature, measurable Zero Trust program. If your posture has stalled, look out for these common fatigue traps:
- Permission Creep: Employees accumulate privileges as they change roles or take on temporary tasks, resulting in bloated, unreviewed access.
- Basic MFA Stagnation: Assuming basic push-based MFA is enough, leaving your business exposed to modern bypass techniques like prompt bombing and session hijacking.
- Siloed Tool Sprawl: Owning multiple disconnected security products that do not share risk data or work together to evaluate threats.
- Ignored Machine Identities: Failing to apply the same strict identity standards to service accounts, API integrations, and vendor connections.
- Reaching a mature Zero Trust posture is worth the effort—it reduces the average cost of a data breach by a staggering $1.76 million. You don't have to start over to get back on track; you just need to transition from a one-time purchase to a continuous practice.

It’s 2:00 AM. Your phone buzzes with an MFA approval prompt. Then it buzzes again. And again. Would your employees know what to do, or would they tap “approve” just to make it stop? 🛑📱

This is an MFA Fatigue Attack (also called prompt bombing)—and it is behind some of the most devastating corporate data breaches in recent history.

How it works: An attacker already bought or fished your employee's valid password from the dark web. Because push-based MFA blocks their login, they flood the employee's phone with hundreds of continuous push notifications at odd hours, hoping frustration or distraction wins. According to Microsoft research, 1% of users will blindly approve the very first unexpected push prompt they receive!

To eliminate human error, you need to transition past basic push notifications:
- Enable Number Matching: Force users to enter a specific number displayed on the physical login screen directly into their authenticator app. If they can't see the screen, they can't mistakenly approve the hack.
- Cap Push Attempts: Configure your identity platform to automatically lock or flag accounts after a defined number of failed requests.
- Deploy Phishing-Resistant MFA: Upgrade administrative and high-risk financial accounts to hardware FIDO2 security keys (like a YubiKey).
- Train Your Team: Teach staff that an unexpected flood of prompts means their password has already been compromised and must be reported immediately.
