I’m excited to share SOAR, a new public art installation I created for the Teen Area at the Roanoke Library.

This piece is made of laser-cut wooden books designed to look like birds taking flight across the wall. Each book is stained in warm natural tones that represent the diverse skin tones within our community.

Soar is inspired by the idea that it’s important for everyone to see themselves reflected in the books and stories that shape our culture. When we see our identities represented in literature, it creates a sense of belonging, affirmation, and empowerment.

Creativity has so many voices and this exhibition celebrates six incredible artists sharing their stories through art.

Working in photography, textiles, sculpture, and mixed media, we each transform recycled and everyday materials into work that reflects memory, culture, and personal experiences.

It’s a beautiful reminder that meaningful art can come from unexpected materials and deeply personal stories.

Honored to share space with these talented artists and to be part of this creative conversation.
