Native identity is more than culture—it is sovereignty, a declaration of our existence rooted in land, water, and ancestors. Across Turtle Island, our nations hold distinct languages, traditions, and histories, yet we share a common fight: protecting what is ours.Names hold power. Our nations are named, our people are named, and our identities are woven into these names. Colonization sought to erase them—to erase us. But we are still here. There is no single voice for all Native nations. We govern, resist, and think differently, yet we share one truth—our lands, waters, and resources are not commodities. They are life itself. The fight for our lands is a fight for survival. Our land has been stolen, poisoned, and sold without consent. Corporations and governments continue to extract and pollute, desecrating sacred sites. Yet, our nations stand. We fight legal battles, reclaim land, and resist destruction. Centuries of colonization left deep scars—poverty, violence, underfunded healthcare, and systemic barriers in education and employment. Historical trauma manifests in PTSD, addiction, and su***de, while federal policies continue to fail us. But we are more than statistics. We are warriors, protectors, defenders, and knowledge keepers. Decolonization is an ongoing battle for truth, sovereignty, and self-definition. We are not relics of the past. We are the future. And we will not be erased.

"A monk decides to meditate alone. Away from his monastery, he takes a boat and goes to the middle of the lake, closes his eyes and begins to meditate.
After a few hours of unperturbed silence, he suddenly feels the blow of another boat hitting his.
With his eyes still closed, he feels his anger rising and, when he opens his eyes, he is ready to shout at the boatman who dared to disturb his meditation.
But when he opened his eyes, he saw that it was an empty boat, not tied up, floating in the middle of the lake…
At that moment, the monk achieves self-realization and understands that anger is within him; it simply needs to hit an external object to provoke it.
After that, whenever he meets someone who irritates or provokes his anger, he remembers: “The other person is just an empty boat. Anger is inside me.“
~Thich Nhat Hanh

For some of us, we choose to bury our sorrow under a blanket of anger. We lash out, and we say things we do not mean. These emotions are not something we need to run from but instead, we need to acknowledge them. We need to find a way to embrace it, forgive, accept them, and learn from them.

“This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor…

Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice meet them at the door, laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” ~ Rumi

Have a great day!
