If you haven’t heard, GM is fully phasing out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their future EVs. They have a lot of excuses, but it all boils down to having the ability to track (and possibly sell) user data and offer extra subscriptions. It’s garbage. I’m on my 4th GM car and never had a reason to look elsewhere until this.
The most immediate inconvenience is renting cars when traveling. Being able to plug in your own device to use your preferred navigation app is a huge deal, and GM doesn’t seem to care. I’m still hoping they’ll come to their senses eventually, but it’s something to be aware of over the next few years. Thankfully, other automakers are listening to customers.
