If you haven’t heard, GM is fully phasing out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their future EVs. They have a lot of excuses, but it all boils down to having the ability to track (and possibly sell) user data and offer extra subscriptions. It’s garbage. I’m on my 4th GM car and never had a reason to look elsewhere until this.

The most immediate inconvenience is renting cars when traveling. Being able to plug in your own device to use your preferred navigation app is a huge deal, and GM doesn’t seem to care. I’m still hoping they’ll come to their senses eventually, but it’s something to be aware of over the next few years. Thankfully, other automakers are listening to customers.

Third party keyboards have offered haptic feedback in the past, but Apple finally built it into iOS 16. Enabling it gives you a slight vibration with each key press, making typing on glass a more tactile experience.

Have you ever used your iPhone’s volume buttons to turn down the volume, only to get a loud phone call that scares the crap out of you?

It’s important to note that, by default, the iPhone’s hardware volume buttons don’t control system volume like ringtones and other alerts!

To change your system volume, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and adjust the volume using the slider there. You can also enable the “Change with Buttons” toggle so that the volume buttons will also control system volume.
