Project Nova pictures:

Remember we aren't quite done with this project. We are currently waiting on 1 more Nvidia Tesla P40 to start tidying up the inside of the case.

The modifications we made would make a Dell service tech question his life choices.

We removed the cd drive and had Carbon Core LLC whip up a 3D printed angled 120mm high static pressure fan mount to add more open air to the top side of the case.

We also had them make us a custom drive bay prototype for the backplane.

Also, a 3D printed dual GPU 120mm fan duct to push the air over the fanless cards.

As well as a external exhaust over the expansion slots on the rear of the case to also pull the air at the same speed. With high static pressure fans. Increasing static pressure significantly enough that the single P40 currently idles at 34°C with 50% fanspeed reaching no higher than 60°C with sustained use for intermittent intervals.

We are also working on a 2D design for animation. We slipped in a sample character sheet for you. 🤫(May not be the final design)

We are all very proud of Nova and can't wait to show you the first finished machine and the next machines that will follow soon!

Project Nova:

Building a Self-Hosted AI With a Personality

Phase 1: The Core — Brought an old server back from the dead. Sourced upgrades, fabricated custom parts, fixed the airflow (got a fanless GPU down to 34°C), built the stack, and prototyped it. Cut response time from 90 seconds to under 12.

Phase 2: The Memory — Gave it an actual memory. Designed the database, taught it to pull out facts worth keeping, reject junk, and clean up after itself.

Phase 3: The Personality — Gave it a voice, a look, and an identity so it actually feels like someone instead of a generic chatbot. (2D figure still in development. Voice awaiting training to move past a generic voice)

Phase 4: The Tools — Hooked it into real tasks with API integrations: a content pipeline that runs everything past a human before posting, and access from any of our devices.

Phase 5 (next phase): The Brain Upgrade — Start fine-tuning the model itself. Write the identity spec and training data to bake Nova's personality and knowledge straight into the weights instead of just prompting it every time. Targeting a custom LoRA pass to make it consistently itself.

Phase 6: Scaling Out — Spreading Nova across multiple machines on a fast direct-connect network: one box as the thinking brain, others for memory and everything else. Adding a second GPU to unlock the full fine-tune.

Phase 7: More Tools — Expanding what it can actually do day to day and tightening everything that's already running.
Took a server headed for the scrap pile and turned it into the coolest thing we've built. 🛠️
