No Stonewall, No Pride. June 1969: police raided a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn, and the patrons finally fought back. Six nights of resistance lit the fuse on the modern gay rights movement. Every Pride parade since is a victory lap.

Postmaster General David Steiner told a Senate committee Wednesday that, if a proposed rule is adopted, the U.S. Postal Service would withhold mail ballots from states that do not hand over to the federal government lists of people who have requested absentee or mail ballots.

So when a politician calls gay rights “absurd” or homosexuality an “issue,” be clear about what they’re actually doing: attacking someone you love. Remember that this November, and vote for a candidate who runs on equality for all.

THEY WANT A REDO ON YOUR WEDDING. Same-sex marriage has been legal nationwide since 2015. Now lawmakers in nine states are trying to undo it, some asking the Supreme Court to reverse the ruling, others quietly passing “one man, one woman” laws to be ready if it does. They’re counting on you not noticing. Don’t give them that.

THEY’RE NOT EVEN BEING SUBTLE. The ACLU is tracking more than 500 anti-LGBTQ bills this year. Five hundred. Most will never become law, and the people filing them know it. That was never the point. The point is to keep you scared, tired, and quiet. So do the opposite. Find out which bills are moving in your state, call those offices by name, and show up when it counts. Exhaustion is the strategy. Refusing to be exhausted is how we beat it.

The number went up again. logged 1,042 anti-LGBTQ incidents last year: harassment, vandalism, threats, assaults. Real people, not statistics. And it climbed for the third year running. Check on your people. Speak up when it’s awkward. Refuse to let it become normal.
