A client brought in this rig because it kept turning off after just a few minutes of use. The culprit? Severe dust buildup and a completely dried-up factory thermal paste layer causing the CPU to overheat and shut down for safety.

Here is how we got it running cool and stable:

- The Real Fix: Deep-cleaned the entire case, fans, and heatsinks to restore airflow, then replaced the dried-up thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU.

- The Extra Mile: Updated the BIOS to version 10.60, optimized the system settings, and performed a fresh, clean install of Windows 11 Home with updated drivers.

During post-repair benchmarking, we also flagged a known hardware compatibility quirk between this ASRock B450 motherboard and the RX 580 8GB GPU that reserves about 8GB of system RAM. The PC is now perfectly stable for everyday tasks, and we gave the client a clear roadmap for a future GPU upgrade (like an RX 6600 or RTX 3060) to unlock full performance.

A customer dropped off this system today after noticing a massive drop in performance alongside some seriously loud fan noise. The culprit? Years of heavy dust buildup blocking the intake mesh, choking the fans, and completely insulating the components. To make matters worse, the original thermal paste was entirely dried up and useless.

We completely stripped down the system, cleared out every spec of dust from the fans and filters, and applied fresh, high-performance thermal paste to get those temperatures back under control.

The result? It is running whisper-quiet, breathing fresh air, and ready to deliver the performance it was actually built for.

This system was brought into the shop because it was consistently shutting down completely after just two minutes of operation.

A full physical inspection and teardown revealed three major issues: severe dust accumulation blocking critical airflow, original CPU thermal paste that had completely dried out and degraded, and a long-standing memory configuration error. The two RAM modules were seated side-by-side in slots A1 and A2, forcing the system to run in single-channel mode and significantly bottlenecking its performance.

Due to the lack of proper heat transfer, the processor was hitting critical temperatures almost immediately upon booting, triggering a hard thermal shutdown to protect the silicon.
We completely disassembled the system, cleared all dust traps from the chassis and intake fans, and thoroughly cleaned the motherboard and CPU heatsink. The processor will receive a fresh application of high-quality thermal paste to restore efficient heat transfer, and the RAM has been properly repositioned into slots A2 and B2 to activate dual-channel mode.
