You can use tools like Google Search Console to see what queries people are typing in to find your website.

You can also see your top pages, what countries people are visiting from, what devices they’re using, and a lot more information.

It gives you real data on what’s actually working instead of guessing.

If you’re not using it, you’re missing out on useful insight.

Do you constantly get calls from people saying they can get your business listed on voice searches and recommended through voice assistants?

You don’t need to pay someone for that.

Just make sure you’re listed on the core five platforms: Google, Bing, Apple, Yelp, and Foursquare.

Most voice assistants pull data from those sources. If you’re listed correctly on those, you’re already covering the majority of voice search.

In addition to your primary category on your Google Business Profile, you can add up to nine additional categories.

A lot of businesses don’t max that out.

Use tools like GMB Everywhere to find related categories that make sense for your business. That can help you show up for more relevant searches.

Just make sure the categories actually match what you do.

Don’t make customers work to hire you.

Over half of online searches happen on a cell phone. If someone has to memorize your phone number or switch between apps just to call you, you’ve probably already lost the lead.

Make it simple.

Have a clear click to call button on your website so they can tap and call immediately.

The easier you make it, the more calls you’ll get.

The speed of your website is a huge factor when it comes to ranking on Google.

If your site is slow, Google is not going to want to rank it higher.

Speed affects user experience, and Google pays attention to that. If people land on your site and it takes too long to load, they leave.

Make sure your website is fast. It matters more than most people think.

Is your business invisible to the 1.5 billion people using Apple Maps?

You need to make sure you’re listed on Apple Business Connect. A lot of people use Apple Maps and never even think about Google.

You also need to make sure you’re on Bing Local Places. If someone has a Windows computer, it usually comes with Microsoft Edge as the default browser, and Bing is the default search engine.

There are still a lot of people who never change those settings.

If you’re only focused on Google, you’re missing part of the market.

Backlinks can help you show up higher in search results.

One of the better backlinks you can get is from your local Chamber of Commerce.

It’s a trusted local organization, and getting listed there gives Google a strong local signal about your business.

It’s usually not complicated to join, and the backlink alone can make it worth it.

Is your website scaring away local customers?

Google has confirmed that website security is a ranking signal. If someone clicks on your website and sees “Not Secure” in the browser, they’re almost always going to bounce back and choose a competitor.

It doesn’t just affect trust. It can affect rankings too.

Make sure your website has a valid SSL certificate. It’s basic, but it matters.

One website mistake that could be costing you leads is not having a mobile responsive website.

I still see a lot of websites that either don’t work well or don’t look good on a phone.

On most of the websites I’ve designed, the majority of traffic comes from mobile. I would say at least 60 percent for almost every one.

If your site doesn’t look good on a phone, you’re probably losing business.

Make sure your website works and looks clean on mobile.

If you’re a service area business, keep your service radius within about two hours driving distance of your base of operations.

If you make your service area too broad, you can dilute your proximity signals. That can actually make it harder to rank, even in your own town.

Bigger is not always better when it comes to local SEO. Staying focused usually works better.

Posting local SEO content to help small businesses.

Changing your Google Business Profile name can give you one of the biggest ranking boosts in the local map pack.

A smart way to do this is if your business name is something like Smith & Company and you’re a plumber, you could register a DBA as Smith & Company Plumbing Services.

Google prioritizes relevance, and having keywords in your business name is a strong signal for user intent.

Just make sure you’re doing it legitimately and not stuffing keywords unnaturally.

People don’t just hire businesses, they hire people.

Make sure you have a team page on your website. Don’t just hide behind your logo.

People want to trust who they’re hiring. They want to see who they’re hiring. A real photo and a short bio can go a long way.

Trust matters more than most people think when it comes to SEO and conversions.
